Video Transcript for Feature Review Cable Lock for Thule Epos Bike Racks

Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. And today we're gonna take a look at this cable lock for your Thule Epos bike rack. Now, this is going to let you attach a cable lock to your Epos bike rack for a second layer of bike security. This 59 inch long and half inch thick cable is going to secure your bikes to your Epos bike rack. And just to give you a brief demonstration of how this is going to work, you're going to install this lock at the base of your bike rack and it's going to be a very easy installation. And then once you have your bikes mounted on your bike rack, you're then going to take this cable and kind of snake it through both of the bikes on the rack.

And then you will then run this end through the eye of this cable and make sure that this is going to be tight around the frame of one of the bikes such as the top tube of the bike. And then once you have that tight around one of the bikes, then you're going to take this end and simply insert it into the lock, then your bikes will be secure to the bike rack. Now, it's probably a little bit difficult to understand how this works since I don't have the rack or a bike. So on your screen, I am including a graphic, just kind of giving you an example of how this is going to work. So as you can see, this is going to be very simple to use.

It's going to take no time at all to secure your bikes to your rack. So hopefully that kind of gives you an idea of how this is going to operate. And then when you're ready to release your bikes and you're ready to hit the trail, you're just going to take one of the included keys. You're gonna get two keys here, insert it into the keyhole and give it a twist. And then that's going to allow you to release the cable from the lock.

So again, very simple, very easy operation. Now, this cable is actually a braided steel cable. Let me see if I can give you a good view of that. This is a braided steel cable. It's rugged, it's durable, and as you notice, it has a coating on it, that's actually a polyethylene coating, so this is going to prevent this cable from scratching your bikes and the rack itself.

So again, 59 inches long, half inch thick. And then when we look at the lock here, the cap is going to protect the lock and the lock cylinder from the element. So if you see here, this is where the cable is going to secure to. So again, you take this end and it locks right into place there in the lock itself. And then you have the keyhole here. And then you just stick the key in, give it a twist and then that's going to allow you to remove the cable. So if you notice here on the keyhole, we do have this sliding cap here that's going to protect that keyhole, which is really nice. So it's not gonna be like a cap or something that you're going to accidentally lose. It's integrated into the plates here of this lock. So that's going to protect that core, that keyhole there from the elements. And this cable can be coiled up for easy compact storage. It has a hook and loop strap that's connected to this that you can just wrap this around the cable and then keep it in place. So again, this is going to be very easy to install, very easy to use and it's really going to give you peace of mind with your bikes on your rack. And as I mentioned, two keys are included with this. And this does have a limited lifetime warranty. And I think I mentioned before that instructions are included to walk you through the installation process. Well, that's gonna conclude our brief look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

  • Bike Rack For Step-Thru Ebikes For Front Hitch
Hey Kenneth, thanks for the question and it's a good one as you're right, there are some bike racks deemed not suitable for use on a front hitch. So I did some digging, and since there's only a couple options for your 71 lb step-thru ebikes, the best one that you can use for the front hitch is the Thule Epos Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # TH99XE. I spoke to Thule about this and there isn't a specific restriction, they just said they hadn't tested it, so this is an option if you're comfortable...

  • Why Does Thule Epos Have Cable Lock and Locks on Straps
The Thule Epos Bike Rack # TH99XE does come with locks for both the rack and the bikes but Thule also provides the Cable Lock # TH89XE just to make it seems more daunting to take the bikes. The standard locks will work great but locks are really just a deterrent so by adding a cable lock to the setup it makes your bike rack more daunting than the next. Thule got smart and made the Epos with the same mounting style as the EasyFold XT so you'll use the Thule Loading Ramp # TH43VA for the...

  • Will Cable Lock for Thule Epos Bike Racks Fit With an ABUS Frame Lock
Yes, the Cable Lock for Thule Epos Bike Racks # TH89XE will click into an ABUS lock that accepts the pin system on this cable.

  • Can ABUS Cable Lock for Thule Epos Bike Racks Be Matched to Thule Epos Bike Rack Lock Cores
The Cable Lock for Thule Epos Bike Racks # TH89XE is made by ABUS which is a different design than what comes with the bike and rack locks on the Thule Epos Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # TH99XE, so while they unfortunately can't be keyed alike, the ABUS lock is another measure of security added to an already secure setup so it isn't necessarily a bad thing that this lock is different.

  • Can You Carry 2 E-Bikes Behind a 2008 Toyota Yaris?
As there is only a class I trailer hitch receiver like the Curt # C11480 available for your 2008 Toyota Yaris, you are going to want to use the Thule Epos Bike Rack # TH99XE. This rack is a class I and is capable of holding 2 bike up to 140lbs with a maximum of 75lbs per bike if you had one weighing 75lbs and another 65lbs or less. The rack itself only weighs 38.1lbs so with your 60lb bikes you are only at 158.1lbs which is below the 200lb capacity of the Curt class I receiver. The uprights...
