They said you do not want to use a liquid sealant of any type because it acts as a lubricant when first applied and would actually allow you to over tighten the fittings causing leaks. They suggest using a thread tape and tightening to approximately 8 to 10 ft lbs. Although the suggestion to hand tighten and then turn an additional 1/4 turn may work, the term hand tighten would be different for everyone.
