Bolt-on, surge-type actuator features a primed finish, durable construction and an efficient roller design to reduce resistance. Coupler sold separately. Designed for use with drum brakes.
Features:
Specs:
When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.
Because this model does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without triggering your trailer's brakes.

Hello, etrailer neighbor and friends. Steven here. We're looking at the Dexter brake actuator with a painted finish, and it's made for drum brakes. It's a simple bolt on application and it's rated for 12,500 pounds max. Now folks, this hydraulic actuator synchronizes your trailer brakes with the towed vehicle brakes. It's got a unique roller of design that's built inside that's gonna reduce the resistance during the telescoping in and out to help create a straight line.
So if you're not familiar with these, it's bolted on when you have everything in place. This piece can actually telescope in and out, and when it's coming in, it's pushing brake fluid out the pieces at the back, out the hose lines that are connected when you install it. And it's applying the brakes at the trailer side. It's got the breakaway actuator here with a nice long chain and S hook, and that way you could also have the emergency engagement if needed. It's very sturdy, it's a nice heavy duty, solid steel construction.
It's gonna resist bending, jackknifing, that kind of stuff. And the coupler for this is sold separately, so you will need a coupler if you don't already have one. And again, it has the breakaway kit and chain included. It's a painted prime finish, so it's really a prime paint, but you can paint any color you want. I do recommend making sure you put another coat on this.
I think a lot of people just install these and they don't paint 'em again. The primer's gonna last for a while, but you really do need to coat it again with a color just to give it that extra coverage and durability. As I mentioned, it's a simple Bolton installation. You got all the bolt holes here to match up onto the three inch wide channel tongue. So let me tilt this back, give you a better view.
So this is three inch here. It's gonna fit a three inch wide channel. And again, this works with hydraulic drum brakes, drum only. The capacity again is 12,500 pounds. That's also stack on top here in the middle. The maximum tow weight is 1,250 pounds. A nice one year warranty. This again, folks, is the Dexter brake actuator for drum brakes. I'm Steven, thanks for watching, have a great day.
