Hidden Cross Tube for a Clean, Factory Look

The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is designed to be as inconspicuous as possible. The hitch's cross tube bolts onto your vehicle's frame, behind your rear bumper. No drilling or welding is required. Once the hitch is installed, only the receiver will be visible beneath your bumper. This means that your vehicle can maintain its stylish, from-the-factory look, and you won't have to do any major modifications to its body or frame.

Eco-Friendly Material

With a combination of aerospace-grade aluminum, steel, and stainless steel, each EcoHitch is made of a strong metal alloy that will withstand the test of time. The lightweight alloy is composed of recycled materials. Traditional steel hitch manufacturing can use coal or oil, which can contribute to harmful gas emissions. The EcoHitch's recycled materials limit the carbon footprint during manufacturing, so you get a sturdy trailer hitch while also helping the environment.

Rigorous Strength Testing Ensures Durability

This EcoHitch trailer hitch is tested for durability and sturdiness. Using Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA), individual points of stress on the hitch can be detected and remedied. Designers can accurately test the hitch to ensure that it will meet or exceed SAE J684 standards. The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is carefully researched and strength tested for a durable, high-quality hitch that can resist damage while on the road.

Hitch fits the car perfectly, some minor cutting required. Plan on using for 4 bike hitch rack and small boat trailer. 419428

When I read the installation instructions I thought it wise to have this hitch put on by a body shop. The guys said it went on without problems. It cost 208.00 to install. It does look OEM. Solid hitch. 567500

2015 Volkswagen Golf

Installed on 2015 Golf TDI in under 6 hours with some help to lift and position the combined bumper and hitch onto the mounting location. Unit looks great. In regard the instructions: Cutting the rectangular opening in the plastic bumped cover panel did not include the the slotted profile needed to pass the safety chain hooks parking tabs through the newly cut opening. An inverted "T" cut-out is actually required. A template or better picture / description is required as shown on some of the better YouTube installation videos. The price is high for a hitch with class I specs, that is 2000lbs tow / 300lbs tongue wt. It's built sturdy enough to be a class III but legally can't be advertised as such due to VW does not allowing over class I weights in the U.S. due to liability concerns. Much higher specs are allowed for towing with the Golf with the same hitch in Europe. Similar, more complex shaped hitches from Curt and Reese while not "hidden", sell for 40% less. 723425

The Ecohitch Hidden Hitch has been perfect. When not in use, the hitch is barely noticeable, but it provided a 2" receiver when no other was available for my car (VW Golf Sport Wagon) and the 2" receiver provides greater stability for my bike rack (Kuat Bike Platform Rack) - which is also stable and very easy to use. 671659

This is a good hitch, but pricey. It is the only hitch I could find on an online search that has a 2-inch receiver and that's why I went with it. I installed it myself with no assistant; the included instructions were very helpful. It took two hours. Bumper and taillights must be completely removed. The taillights are easy to remove: no tools needed. The bumper is harder, just go slow and don't force anything. Jacking the rear of the car was helpful. I did not have to remove the rear tires. There is just enough room to use a torx bit turned by a small wrench; if you leave the tires on, there is not enough room to use a regular screw driver on the wheel well screws. Hitch looks great on the car. 415199

The installation went without a hitch on my 2015 VW Sportswagen. The most difficult part was removing the bumper without break the plastic clips but with a little patience it was accomplished. The hitch arrived on time, the box was a little damaged but the hitch was still ok and not bent. I plan to use this with my bicycle hitch mount 1up rack and look forward to the convenience of just racking the bikes and going. 528582

2017 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen

Easy Install. It took a couple hours. I had to figure out how the fascia worked. I used an online video for reference. While my 2017 had a few subtle differences, the video helped me install my EcoHitch. The main difference is the rear valance does not have the cutout as the 2015 does. It required some "eyeballing" to get the hole cut for the hitch. 529935

2019 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack

I installed a 2 inch receiver hitch on my 2019 VW Alltrack. Installation followed the instructions with no significant issues. However, there are two rear traffic alert radar sensors behind the bumper cover which are fitted as standard equipment on the 2019 Alltrack. One of the attachments is also the top outer bolt/nut of the bumper. I removed all three sensor attachments and moved both sensors out of the way. This allowed easier access for fitting the hitch/bumper assembly and reduced the risk of damaging the sensor. When the radar sensors were re-installed there were 2 consequences: 1. the plastic sensor bracket was strained slightly out of shape due to the thickness of the hitch/bumper (previously just the bumper), 2. the angle/direction (relative the the back of the car) of the radar sensor was slightly modified. Although the most difficult part of the hitch installation was deciding where to cut the bumper cover, the result was a clean and professional looking installation. 638616

The hitch itself seems great so far, fits in with the bumper really well and seems very sturdy. Took me 2.5 hours solo including many coffee breaks and being distracted by curious onlookers. Easly could be done in 2 for the reasonably mechanically inclined. 530114

Love the installation process was pretty straightforward with great instructions. I don't think the cutout at the bottom accounted for the width including the chain loops though. 691369

The install process for me was about 4 hours but that was including adding a wiring harness and I would recommend if you are going to install a harness you do it at the same time as it's easier to run the wires at that time. The included instruction and vid on line do a good job. The biggest slowdown I found was cutting the hole in the bumper. I would recommend removing the black cover plate from the bumper then trimming and reinstalling it at the end when everything is back in. The reason being if you cut the hole a little wide that will cover some of it up. The hole size they give is larger then needed. I found 3" with a bit wider at the bottom worked. Overall it's a good fitting and well made hitch. If they included a template for the cutout I'd give them 5 out of 5. 410077

2017 Subaru Outback Wagon

I installed this 2" receiver hitch on my 2017 VW Golf Alltrack for the purpose of carrying bicycles with a Thule T2 rack. I used the T2 on my previous vehicle (Subaru Outback XT) as well, but with a different receiver hitch. The Ecohitch itself is very burly and feels like it could stand up to anything. It also looks good and has a nice, custom, stealthy look on the Alltrack. The install took two of us 5 hours, mostly because of cutting the trim. We left the rear wheels on the vehicle. Removing all the screws was pretty easy - just make sure you keep them in a container, as there are many. Peeling back the sides of the bumper and releasing the clips was a bit scary because it felt like you could crack the plastic. Just go slowly and look for where it's attached before yanking. Aside from that, the bumper came off without a hitch (pun intended). Taking off the impact bar, attaching the hitch, and reinstalling the pair was relatively easy. The biggest challenge came when we needed to cut the lower part of the bumper trim to fit around the hitch. The square receiver hitch opening is 3" across, but the neck behind it is smaller. We tried to cut the opening as small as possible and wedge the bumper back on. The tow hook flange on the hitch made this difficult. We had to make several small cuts to get it just right, which took a lot of time. Once on, the hitch looks and performs excellent. I definitely recommend it. Just leave yourself a decent amount of time for the install. If we did another one, the time would be about half what it took us. 450334

2018 Subaru Forester

When I purchased my Alltrack 6 mo ago, VW did not rate the car for towing, so I assumed my old Forester would continue towing my motorcycle trailer. But then I found etrailer. There are now several products available. This hitch is beautifully finished and all the ancillaries like wiring were available. I was able to easily compare offered hitches and other parts...great software. And it was delivered on time. Not being handy, I am using a friendly local body shop for the install. etrailer is the best web based seller of any product I have ever used. On a previous product, I needed some questions answered about shipping and that was handled perfectly, also. The best people, products and software...hard to beat that. 593758

The fact that a hitch is available for a given vehicle doesnt necessarily mean that the vehicle is capable of towing a trailer. Many folks purchase a hitch for use as an attachment point for an accessory like a bike rack or a cargo carrying tray. Youll still want to follow anything your vehicle manufacturer mentions in the owners manual regarding towing.

2019 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack

2019 VW Alltrack SEL - This hitch is solid but a few random things I will note. Instructions were easy to follow and I didn't have any problems getting the bumper off. One bumper clip broke under the taillights but did not affect the re-installation. I removed the black fascia piece and trimmed that separately. I could not get the bumper clips to snap in on the top of the bumper when re-installing. It seems like the extra thickness from the hitch prevents the bumper from being able to fully engage back into the clips. I'm not sure on this though. In hindsight I would have gotten a 1.25 inch hitch because all I'm using it for is a bike rack. It would have a smaller profile and require less trimming and I feel like the lower fascia would not be bowed downward like in some of the pictures posted buy others. I spend a lot of time trimming the fascia and trying to not trim too much but just enough so it didn't bow too much downward. I wouldn't have had this issue if I got a 1.25 inch hitch. I did all my trimming with a sheet-rock knife. 865340

Installed the 2" Ecohitch on my 2019 VW Alltrack SE w/ Appearance Package. Overall quality of the product is excellent. The coating on the hitch appears to be applied generously and should stand up to the elements just fine. The hitch does require trimming of the lower bumper insert, but it is well worth the outcome. The hitch mounts flush with the rear bumper and does not jeopardize the rear clearance or look of the vehicle, like a number of conventional hitch mounts. 815763

Delivered in good time and comes with everything needed for a neat install. Cutting the required hole in the bumper of a brand new car was the only nerve wracking step. Super solid hitch, use it with a rocky mounts 2 bike rack and it's been perfect, no flex at all like I've seen with 1 1/4" hitch/racks. Definitely worth the price difference. The coating is also very robust, it hasn't chipped or faded and looks brand new a year after installing (in AZ harsh summers). Can't recommend enough. 794096

The towing package for a vehicle will generally consist of a trailer hitch and trailer wiring harness. The lower fascia does get trimmed because it is different like you mentioned. Basically you have to cut a hole that is around 5 inches wide and 2.50 inches tall. I attached a picture that shows the Curt brand equivalent hitch installed on a vehicle like yours with the section trimmed.

  • Hitch for Carrying a Bike Rack with a 2018 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack SE

  • Is EcoHitch 306-X7315 Made Specifically for 2015 Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen TSI
The Ecohitch part # 306-X7315 that you referenced is a custom fit hitch for your 2015 VW Golf Sportwagen TSI. It would be what your local shop wants. It was custom made for your vehicle and is in no way a universal hitch.

  • Comparing Hitch Sizes Available for 2015 Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen
The capacities are the same between all of the hitches we offer for your 2015 Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen (2,000 lbs total trailer and 200 lbs tongue weight), but the ones listed as a Class III like the part # 306-X7315 do have a 2 inch opening. Since more accessories are made for the 2 inch hitch size that would be the route I would go.
