When you’re not towing, the base plate practically disappears. The hidden design keeps the front end looking clean, and the removable arms twist out fast, so nothing sticks out past the bumper. Receiver covers plug in when the arms are off to keep dirt and debris out and give the setup a finished look. It’s a slick setup that looks stock when you’re driving around town.

Connecting and disconnecting takes only a few seconds thanks to the twist-lock system. Just slide the arms into the receivers, rotate until they lock, and secure with the pin. When it’s time to unhook, pull the pin, twist, and remove. There’s no fumbling or heavy lifting—just a quick, reliable coupling every time you hit the road.

This base plate bolts directly to your chassis with no welding required. The sturdy design spreads towing force evenly across the frame to help prevent stress on your suspension during long hauls. The durable steel construction is powder coated to resist rust and corrosion, so it keeps doing its job trip after trip.
If you already have a tow bar you like, there’s a way to make it work. The sturdy lugs pair directly with Blue Ox tow bars to form a solid connection. It’s also adaptable for use with Roadmaster tow bars when you add adapter RM-031 or RM-031-5 (sold separately), or with Demco tow bars using adapter DM9523041 (sold separately). That means you can keep running your current setup without starting from scratch.
You don’t need fancy equipment or a welding setup to get this installed. The base plate bolts securely to the vehicle chassis using the included mounting hardware. It’s a straightforward project for anyone comfortable turning wrenches in their driveway and makes for a dependable towing setup once everything’s tightened down.

Its been two years since installation of the Blue Ox Baseplate. Since then, Ive flat towed the CRV from NJ to FL and back three separate times with many other shorter trips in between. Paired with a Blue Ox Tow Bar, the system has worked flawlessly since installation.

Thanks for the detailed review Chris, and the pointers! This will be most helpful to others. What was your favorite stop in those 7,000 miles? Where did you go, what did you see?

Follow up. Ive put about 8000 miles on the setup and its been great. A 34 ton suburban pulls nicely behind my Dutch star, and they dont have a steering lock so its nice not to have to retrieve keys when stopping for the night. I have used the safety cable attachment a few times for straight line pulls with a small shackle when working as a rally racing volunteer, its been fine but I wouldnt side pull on it.

It has been a good system. I would still give it 4 stars a year later just because it was a difficult job to install. Not for the faint of heart. So far have about 6k miles of towing with it. Would I do it again….Yes as it was worth the effort.
