If you prefer a clean, factory look when you’re not towing, this base plate fits the bill. The hidden design keeps the front end uncluttered, and the removable arms come off with a simple twist. When the arms are out, receiver covers plug into the openings to keep out dirt and debris while giving a finished look. No welding is needed, and the brackets don’t stick out past the front of the vehicle, so there’s nothing to bump into while walking by.
When it’s time to tow, setup is fast and straightforward. Each arm slides into its receiver and twists to lock into place. To disconnect, just pull the pin, rotate, and remove. The twist-lock mechanism makes connecting your tow bar simple and secure whether you’re in your driveway or at the campsite.
This base plate bolts directly to the chassis with the included hardware—no fabrication needed. Its sturdy steel build spreads towing forces evenly to help reduce stress on your suspension during long hauls. The powder-coated finish resists rust and corrosion for lasting strength mile after mile.
This setup pairs directly with Blue Ox tow bars for a reliable connection. If you’re running a Roadmaster or Demco tow bar, adapters (RM-031, RM-031-5, or DM9523041, sold separately) make it adaptable to your existing gear. Integrated mounting points let you easily attach an electrical connector plug with bracket (sold separately) to keep your wiring organized and close at hand.
Designed with do-it-yourselfers in mind, this kit uses factory attachment points and requires no welding. Some models may need fascia trimming around bumper shutters for electrical clearance, but overall installation is direct and manageable with common tools. Distance between brackets is 38" with a bracket height of 19", so you can plan your tow setup accurately before hitting the road.

Its been two years since installation of the Blue Ox Baseplate. Since then, Ive flat towed the CRV from NJ to FL and back three separate times with many other shorter trips in between. Paired with a Blue Ox Tow Bar, the system has worked flawlessly since installation.

Follow up. Ive put about 8000 miles on the setup and its been great. A 34 ton suburban pulls nicely behind my Dutch star, and they dont have a steering lock so its nice not to have to retrieve keys when stopping for the night. I have used the safety cable attachment a few times for straight line pulls with a small shackle when working as a rally racing volunteer, its been fine but I wouldnt side pull on it.
