Features to know about

Keeps Your Trailer Level: 6" Drop for Confident, Even Towing

If your trailer doesn’t sit level, you’ll feel it in sway and uneven handling. This ball mount gives you a solid 6" drop so you can line up the coupler height and keep your setup steady. It fits a 2" x 2" hitch receiver and uses a 2" ball that’s already torqued to factory specifications, making it a ready-to-use option for towing up to 7,500 lbs gross and 750 lbs tongue weight.

Ready to Tow Right Out of the Box: Pre-Torqued 2" Ball and Pin Included

No need to break out the torque wrench or guess at proper setup. The ball comes pre-torqued, so you can just slide the shank into your receiver, secure it with the included pin and clip, and get rolling. The tight-fitting hitch pin minimizes rattle for a smoother tow that feels solid on the road.

Built to Last Through Weather and Road Grime: Double-Duty Corrosion Resistance

Road salt and moisture are tough on towing gear, but this mount fights back. The steel shank is protected by an e-coat base layer topped with a matte black powder coat for maximum rust resistance. The black nickel-plated ball and hitch pin add another layer of corrosion protection while giving the whole setup a clean, sleek look that stays sharp after miles of towing.

Simple Strength You Can Count On: Fixed, Heavy-Duty Steel Construction

Sometimes basic is best. This fixed ball mount has no moving parts to loosen or clank, just solid steel that does its job haul after haul. The 8-1/2" length from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole gives you plenty of clearance without excess bulk. It’s straightforward gear built for dependable performance every time you tow.

by:

Has a nice darkened tint on the pin and ball that looks good. Hadn't seen that before and I like it. The website video how to determine drop distance really helped. The 6" drop keeps my motorcycle trailer perfectly level. Also I notice that the tow rating on this one is higher than other 6" drop ball mounts I've seen in stores and online. The shipping package was a bit beat up but the product inside was not scratched. I ordered from etrailer because of prior excellent customer service.

Installed on 2022 Honda Ridgeline RTL. It looks well built and I love the satin finish on the ball. My rating may change after significant use.

by:

Bought to tow my boat behind my 5th wheel. Works great!

by:

I was questioning going with the lower cost etrailer brand of this. I only need this drop on occasion. But trust me, I was shocked at the quality and how well this is made! Excellent item

by:

I have about a half-dozen ball mounts of various brands and this one is the nicest.

After one season of salt-water use, the usual progression of rust and flaking paint seems slower than expected. It has a matte finish that I find pleasing. The pin, ball, threads, and nut all seem of slightly higher quality than is typical.

Based on this product, I would choose etrailer mounts over others in the future.

They have great customer service as well, in my experience.

We have a 25 4Runner and a 10’cargo trailer to haul woodworking projects from fair to fair. A previous ball hitch with 4” drop still hauled the trailer in a upward position and I didn’t want the rear end to drag going in and out of transitional areas. The 6” drop ball hitch works perfect and still allows the trailer to ride level and the rear hatch to open without hitting trailer . Thanks eTrailer for offering a variety of ball hitches for a accurate ride during travel!!!

  • Can etrailer Ball Mount # e87DR Fit GM Hitch with OEM 2 inch Hitch Adapter
Hey Walt, while we haven't had a chance to test fit the etrailer ball mount part # e87DR on a Chevy truck like yours but here's a way to can check. This has 2-3/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the gusset on the bottom of the ball mount shank. You can compare that to the hitch and adapter to see if there's enough clearance. Let me know what dimension you have if this won't work.

  • Is Shank of etrailer Ball Mount w/ Pre-Torqued 2" Ball # e87DR Hollow or Solid
Hey Tim, the shank of the etrailer Ball Mount w/ Pre-Torqued 2" Ball # e87DR that you referenced is hollow. Were you planning on using an anti-rattle hitch lock with this?

  • Can etrailer Ball Mount w/ Pre-Torqued 2" Ball be Used in the Rise Position
Hey Kevin, great question! You definitely can invert the etrailer Ball Mount w/ Pre-Torqued 2" Ball # e87DR so it's in a rise configuration, but you will need to remove and re-install the hitch ball so it's in the correct orientation. If you'd rather not have to torque the hitch ball then I recommend checking out an adjustable hitch system like the Flint Hill Goods Adj Tri-Ball Mount # FHG92VR which gives you the ability to use the ball mount in the drop or rise configuration by removing...

  • Can a Ball Mount be Flipped Over and Used as a 6" Rise Instead of a 6" Drop
Hey Marshall, thanks for reaching out! Yes, you can flip a ball mount over so it has a 6" rise instead of a 6" drop. This is even the case for standard ball mounts like the etrailer Ball Mount w/ Pre-Torqued 2" Ball # e87DR - you will just have to remove the hitch ball and reinstall it with the proper torque settings.

  • How Much Rise and Drop Does the etrailer Ball Mount W/ Pre-Torqued 2" Ball
Great question Thad! So the 6" you're referring to only applies to the drop, and the 4 3/4" refers to the rise. The drop would be considered if the ball mount was installed right side up with the part the ball mounts to closest to the ground. The rise would be if you flipped it upside down and used it that way. Since the ball is already torqued to be used in a drop position you'd have to un-torque the ball and re-torque it in the rise position if you needed it to use it that way. I've...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver Towing a Utility Trailer With 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Laredo
Derek, I recommend installing the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT42GR on your 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Laredo. I prefer this one as it hides behind the removable rear fascia cover and includes a mount for your electrical wiring. You will be able to mount the 4-Way # TK39VR with the Bracket # 18144 on the mounting tab. This 4-way will connect to your trailers lights. Then you will be able to connect your trailer with the Ball Mount # e87DR which comes with a 2" ball already attached.

  • Cushioned Ball Mount for 2020 Ford Ranger Towing 2-Horse Trailer
Welcome back! The Cushioned Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # AMSC6 you were looking at would be perfect for this. With your measurements a 6" drop would keep you level, and that is exactly what this ball mount has. You will also need # 40038 for a 2" or # C40007 for a 2-5/16" ball. Any big trips coming up with your horse trailer?

  • Comparing Etrailer 6" Drop Ball Mount To Curt 6" Drop Ball Mount For Lifted Truck
I agree that 6" of drop will likely be good for your truck with a 6" lift, but to verify you can take some measurements as seen in the attached photo. The etrailer Ball Mount # e87DR and the Curt # C45064 both have the same specs of 6" drop, 7,500lb weight rating, pre-torqued 2" ball, and include pin and clip. That said, I prefer the etrailer mount since it comes with a corrosion-resistant black nickel coating on the ball and pin, which holds up to salt and elements better than the chrome...

  • Anti-Rattle 2" Trailer Hitch Ball Mount For Lifted Tahoe With Boat Trailer
What's up Cheddar, I think you'd like our etrailer Ball Mount w/ Pre-Torqued 2" Ball - 2" Hitch # e87DR since it has 6" of drop for your big lifted Tahoe. It's ready to grab and tow, you don't have to install any balls or torque anything like some other options. I also think you'll appreciate the matte black finish and the black nickel coating on the ball and pin because it resists corrosion/elements better than standard chrome/raw finishes. If you want to keep it tight and reduce wobble/rattle,...

  • Looking for Boat Trailer Surge Brake Actuator for 1999 Maxum 2300 sr
Hey Nick, I would go with the Demco Surge Actuator for drum brakes part # DM72VR to replace what you have. This is a reliable actuator that is easy to use and it has a higher 7,000 lb capacity as well. Then for a ball mount and hitch ball that would work you have a few options that would work great but it really comes down to how much drop you need to tow your trailer level. For a 2 inch drop part # e99DR, for a 4 inch drop part # e44DR, or for a 6 inch drop # e87DR.
