Can etrailer Ball Mount # e87DR Fit GM Hitch with OEM 2 inch Hitch Adapter

Updated 04/27/2026 | Published 04/17/2026

Question:

Have you tested this unit on a GMC or CHEVY truck that has a 2.5 inch receiver with the GM 2.5 to 2 inch reducer sleeve installed? Looks like the gussetinch might hit the adapter and prevent the pin hole form lining up.

Hey Walt, while we haven't had a chance to test fit the etrailer ball mount part # e87DR on a Chevy truck like yours but here's a way to can check. This has 2-3/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the gusset on the bottom of the ball mount shank. You can compare that to the hitch and adapter to see if there's enough clearance. Let me know what dimension you have if this won't work.

Only have 2 inch receiver but would purchase unit to specifically fit the receiver.

@CaptainB That would be the best option - however some people have multiple vehicles, some that are 2" receiver and some that are 2.5" receiver. So, for those having the financial means to buy solutions for each, I agree.

It might work - looks really close.

@WaltD Might measure your setup first?

@JamesonC I did measure - depending on the welds and how things work - it would be very close. Unless I had a unit to test with, I could not be sure it would work.

@WaltD I see what you mean. I'm not normally supposed to mentioned things like this but one could remove a little bit of the gusset material with a grinder if it was really close and it would probably be fine.
