I ordered the Rhino Rack for my 2017 Mazda 3 hatchback. The first thing I was concerned about was if the rack would interfere with opening my moon roof but that's not an issue. However, the rack does whistle pretty loud with the moon roof open at high speeds but that would happen with any roof rack.

For my car, the fixed mounting points on the roof are not accessible with the normal molding strips on the roof. So I had to order new Mazda molding strips with openings that provide access to the roof mounting points. You'll have to research which ones to get for your car. But, luckily, they're not expensive and are easy to install.

Ok, now for the Rhino Rack. I'm fairly handy and have installed roof racks before and the whole install took me about 2 hours. But it wasn't totally straightforward. The directions included in the box were for clamping a rack to the door openings and not for screwing the rack mounts into the fixed points on the roof. So they were not very helpful for my car. In addition, the towers were set up for the clamping arms, so I had to knock that hardware out of the tower arms and install the hardware for screwing down on the roof mounting points.

Also missing from the instructions were the spacing measurements for the roof rack. So I had to go to Rhino Rack's web site and search for the spec sheet for my car to find the measurements. The good news is that those measurements were dead on when I went to screw the rack onto the roof.

What really saved me was watching the etrailer install video for the Mazda 3 (that video was for an older Mazda 3 but the instructions worked fine for my 2017). That will show you how to do it. Once installed, the rack was sturdy and looked great.

I've since installed two Rocky Mounts bike carriers and they are awesome. Although, the forward tilt of the front cross bar (fault of the car's design not the rack) made the install a little tricky and I had to tighten down the bike rack clamp unevenly back-to-front to get it to work. Just thought I would mention for anyone planning on carrying bikes.

The folks at etrailer are great. Part of my order was backordered and they went out of their way to try and speed up delivery, even with the backorder delivery was very fast.

Installation (2017 Mazda hatchback) was easy but I must have misunderstood the directions because both front and rear spacing was too short (1 1/2"). No problem though as a slight adjustment that only took ten extra minutes at the most to resolve with no effect on the installation. I didn't time it but I bet the whole installation from unboxing to being done took less than an hour and it fits the car, both physically and aesthetically perfect. Pleased customer planning to buy some accessories real soon.

The Rhino roof rack looks great on my 2015 Mazda3 hatchback.

Instructions were a little hard to understand for the first few steps. If there was online instructions, they were not easy to find. Very clean install!

2018 Toyota 4Runner
I bought the complete set (mounting points, mounts and aero cross bars) looking for a less expensive approach for a rack to carry my sea kayak. The equipment shipped quickly from or via etrailer. The instructions that came with the whole kit leave a little bit to be desired and a little bit of mechanical interpretation is needed to figure out what parts you need and which you don't. The whole set went together relatively easily in an hour or so. I remove the bars, mounts and mounting points when not in use which is a bit time consuming and fiddly. I had to replace the mazda 3's roof moulding which was continuous with one that had the necessary pop out pieces to accept the rack but this was not costly nor a big job. Overall, I am pleased with the rhino rack and it looks just fine. The one area it could be improved is wind noise - at some speeds there can be quite a heavy drone either off the bars or mounts. The bars do have rubber inserts to smooth out the surface across the width of the car. I suspect it might be the mounts which have the inboard side of them completely open so the air flowing along the car goes over this open space like you would have happen when you blow across the top of a bottle. I am going to try to cover the sides with gorilla tape to see if this makes a difference. Apart from that, I am quite happy with the etrailer ordering, delivery and the Rhino rack in general.

2014 Mazda 3
I bought these racks about a year ago for my 2014 Mazda 3 hatchback. They installed easily to the fix points on the car. After the initial fitting, I can install or remove them in about ten minutes.

The quality is great and they are holding up very well. They are very quiet and make an excellent, sturdy base for carrying my Thule Roof box. I was also very pleased with the prompt and courteous service I received from Etrailer.

The rack fits our 2018 Mazda 3 hatchback perfectly and looks great.
It's a perfect rack for surfboards.
ETrailer shipped very quickly. Excellent experience!

Great product. Online installation video for my Mazda 3 hatchback was very helpful. Reading all the manuals and spec sheets is also crucial for success. I was impressed with how each step followed the instructions and felt familiar.
by:
Install was made dificult due to the fact i ordered for the fixed mounting points and the instructions were for the clamp on style. Dispite that i am so far happy with the look and feel of these racks. Have not needed them yet but do plan on using the for travel and when we kayak.

Install turned out clean and functional, after quite a bit of studying the install instructions

2011 Mitsubishi Outlander
Rhino Racks definitely has it dialed. My 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander GT with bare roof/fixing points. I'm not the brightest star in the night but the instructions were spot on. It's a rugged yet aero bar set up. The feet anchor securely in the fixing points. Did a quick drive and at 62mph there was a noticeable low rushing noise. No big. When the ski box goes on it's going to break up the airflow.
Rachel was awesome. Very thorough in nailing down what would fit my car.
Thanks Rachel!

Fairly easy installation. Read the instructions thoroughly before hand and get familiar with the parts. Take care when installing mounting studs onto car itself so as not to strip or cross thread them. Once installed they look great.

Fantastic! Very little noise on highway and sturdy.

Ram 2500
I was able to transfer my Rhino Rack bars and 2500 series platforms from my C-Max to my Mazda 5 with just changing the foot kit from one specific to the C-Max to the fixed point type for the Mazda 5. Some savings from buying a new setup entirely. I took the risk the bars' length might be an issue - turned out okay.

*** In changing the roof rack from one car to another, make sure to buy 4 total of the measuring strips for the roof racks (#RRM641). I didn't think to buy these until I put the rack on and heard whistling at high speed.
by:
Pretty nice rack system. Held up to my 90lb canoe no problem. However a piece did fly off on the highway and the "locking" bar end cap can pull off super easy.
The directions were ok. There is some stuff you have to kind of figure out for yourself, mainly the roof trim. I plan to leave the rack on so I drilled theough the trim

Hey there,
So the product was great, and installation was relatively easy. I have a concern with the pads I received in my box/ the placement of them. And I’m not sure who to contact?
I did not see on the DK sheet specific for my vehicle how to place the pads and which way the arrow should go. So I put them all on with the arrow facing out. The back pads look great but they front pads look odd, and not just the placement but also the pad itself. I’ll attach two pictures to show you the difference in them!

According to Rhino Rack, the pads sitting under the front foot pack should be rotated 180 degrees. Once thats done, they should sit correctly.

After a year, the rack is still in very top shape, easy to remove for the winter since I use is only for Kayaks in the summer, easy reinstall. One thing that barely need to be mentioned, some the noise is created on the side tips when driving moderately *cough* *cough*, but it is to be expected since it doesnt serve for aerodynamic :

by:
It works, yet for the price I expected more precision manufacturing than what I got. Several screw threads had rough spots and there is no way to tighten the nut on the underside of the metal bracket on one leg. It would have been nice for the instructions to mention the wrench for that nut is a 10 mm. And whatever made the designers think the regular user would have the type of torque wrench they require?
by:
Install onto factory fix points was relatively easy, being very careful to not cross thread anything. The numbered instructions had good pictures and were easy to follow. Cut the bar bottom inserts to the right size and the assembled racks fit the car well. Seems sturdy. Attached swagman fork down racks and put bikes on and drove around some to test it out. Time will tell but this seems like a good rack for the money.

It took me a little while to install because the size numbers for my vehicle were off. But that being said, fast deliver and all the CORRECT parts for my particular vehicle made it a reasonably easy installation. I would order from e-trailer again.

Great, works just as advertised. It has held up well to the high UV and wet conditions of Florida. They are also subject to salt marsh water from kayaks and I have seen no signs of corrosion or degradation.

by:
I bought this rack for affordability and the fact that it was taller than the antenna fin on the roof. My SUP board fits perfectly up there without needing expensive add on accessories.

The racks were easy to install and look really great.

  • Recommended Rhino Rack Roof Rack for a 2025 Subaru Impreza
Hey Scott, congrats on the new car. I checked with Rhino-Rack and you will be able to reuse your crossbars and leg kit. They recommend the 49" Long item # RRVA126B so yours item will definitely work. The Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Legs for Vortex Aero Crossbars item # RRRLKVA are the same ones you bought back in 2016. The only new parts you'll need are the Custom DK Fit Kit for 4 Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Roof Rack Legs item # DK285. These attach to those fixed mounting points you were talking...

  • Recommended Roof Rack for 2014 Mazda 3 Without Fixed Mounting Points
If your 2014 Mazda 3 does not have the fixed mounting points, I recommend the Rhino Rack Aero Bar Roof Rack. This system consists of # RRVA126B-2 for the two 49 inch Vortex Aero Crossbars, # RRRLKVA for the 2500 Series Legs, and # DK406 for the Custom DK Fit Kit. This will provide an extremely quiet roof rack system with a weight capacity of 165 pounds. If you find that your vehicle does in fact have fixed mounting points, you can use the same crossbars and 2500 Series Legs as above,...

For your 2018 Mazda 3 hatchback the roof rack I recommend is the Rhino Rack roof rack part numbers # RRVA126B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK410 because this rack is very easy to install, is made of higher quality components, and doesn't cost quite as much as similar quality racks so it's the best buy as well. Then for a kayak carrier I recommend the Yakima JayLow part # Y04073 as it fits the Rhino Rack bars well, is padded, can fold down when not in use, and if ever needed you'd be able to carry...

  • How to Carry 4 Bikes on a 2017 Mazda 3 Hatchback
There are a couple of things you should know. The most important is that all of the trailer hitches for the 2017 Mazda 3 hatchback are Class I hitches. This means that the most bikes you can carry on a hitch is 2 even if the bike rack can hold more. It isn't a weight issue but rather how far the weight will be from the receiver if a third or more bikes is added. In order to carry 4 bikes I recommend a combination of a trunk mount bike rack and a roof rack. Using the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top...

  • Best Roof Rack for a 2015 Mazda 3 5-door with Fixed Mounting Points
For the 2015 Mazda 3, you'll only have access to either Yakima or Rhino Rack roof bars. Both are great companies and there's a few differences that are important to note about the two companies. Rhino Rack doesn't produce as many accessories, but is a smaller than average bar and fits more mounting hardware in both its C-Channel and around the bar. Additionally, its locking system is two part, one for the foot pack and one for the c-channel accessories as a separate part. Finally, Rhino...

The 2018 Native Watercraft Manta Ray propel 12 that you have weighs 89 lbs so you'd need a kayak carrier with more weight capacity like the Swagman Exo Aero Rooftop Kayak Carrier System with Tie-Downs # S65145 that you referenced. It sounds like you are looking at the Rhino Rack roof racks for your 2014 Mazda 3. I would recommend the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRVA126B-2. The aero style is the most common style of bar.
