Today we're going to be taking a look at the Brophy Banjo Eye for 5/16" diameter safety chains. This banjo eye welds securely to your trailer or truck bed and it's going to secure a 5/16" diameter safety chain. This is designed for dump tail gates and for other load securing applications. It's very easy to use once it's installed or welded into place. Just feed the chain through the hole to the length you need, then drop that link into the key hole slot. That's going to hold it in place.
The durable steel, it is unfinished so you can easily weld it and paint it to match your trailer. A few measurements to go over with you real quick, going edge to edge this direction, we can see that's going to measure about 3 9/16". Going this direction we're looking at about 3 1/2". When it comes to the thickness you can see that's going to measure just over 1/4", so right around 5/16" thick. The hole is going to give us a diameter measurement of about 1 3/4". The slot measures about 1/2" wide, and the length of that slot, that's going to measure about 1 1/4".
The product is made in the USA, and again, nice, durable, steel construction. That's going to do it for today's look at the Brophy Banjo Eye for a 5/16" diameter safety chain.

I use my trailer for cargo as well as tractor hauling. By welding banjo eyes flush in the floor instead of using D-rings there isn't any metal standing above the trailer bed to get in the way of hauling cargo. There is only one slight problem with them. The circle is too small to drop a chain into it 'mid-span' and only works if you use the end of a chain. Roll-off trucks seem to have a bigger circle or a "T" at the top of the slot that allows chains to be used mid-span. Not a big deal because you can always pull the grab hook off your chains and just drop the end it.
