Weight Distribution Shank Recommendation for Equalizer 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
Updated 04/30/2025 | Published 04/15/2025 >
Question:
I just upgraded my truck from a 2021 Ford F150 to a 2024 Chevy 2500HD. I have a 2014 Airstream Flying Cloud 25RB and the dealership installed an Equalizer hitch for me on my F150. I need to get a new shank but have no idea what or rise I need so hoping you can help me figure this out. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey Joey, I can definitely help you pick out the shank you'll need with the correct rise/drop. First let's figure out how much drop you'll need. To do that you'll want to measure from the top of your hitch opening down to the ground and then measure from the bottom of your coupler lip on your trailer down to the ground. The difference between those two dimensions is the amount of drop you'll need.
The Equal-i-zer shank part # EQ90-02-4900 has a pretty good chance at work for you as it would fit the 2-1/2 inch hitch your vehicle has as well as can do a drop of up to 6 inches. Let me know how much drop you need though and if this doesn't work I'll help you find what will.

Hey Jameson, I measured the truck and trailer and have the following measurements. For the truck, it's right at 22.5" from the top of the hitch down to the ground. For the trailer, it's 19" from the top of the coupler to the ground. So I guess I need 3.5" drop so would really like a recommendation on which shank you would recommend. Thanks for the help.
