Can 5-Lug Hub Be Upgraded to 6-Lug Hub
Updated 01/05/2026 | Published 09/19/2024 >
Question:
Can I fit /Or put on a six pin/lugged hub and drum on an axle that came with the five pin hub? Would you just recommend buying a heavier duty axel?

Hey Jeff, thanks for reaching out!
You can potentially swap out a 5-lug hub for a 6-lug hub, but it all depends on what bearings and seals your axle uses.
For example, 2,000 lb axle uses ither 4-lug or 5-lug hubs while a 3,500 lb axle is compatible with 5-lug or 6-lug hubs.
If you have a 3,500 lb axle then you should be able to use the Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-35-EZ-K but you'll want to verify that you have the following bearing and seal specs:
- Inner Bearing L68149
- Outer Bearing L44649
- Grease Seal Inner Diameter 1.719"

Hey Jeff, did you get a chance to check the bearing and seal sizes on your axle to see if the 6-lug hub and drum fit? Knowing how that worked out could really help others looking to upgrade from a 5-lug setup.
