Question:
I have a small utility trailer with a 1,600lb capacity. I need a new set of wheels and tires to replace the old 175/80R13s radials that are on it now. I am reading mixed info online on radial vs bias ply tires. Trailer does a mix of both around town 10mi and long distance 400mi and up trips. Which tire would work best for these distances?

Hey Daniel, I can help point you in the right direction. If I were you I would stick with the radial tires. Bias ply tires use a crisscross pattern for the layers of cord. This make for a more firm sidewall and this is more of an "old school" design opposed to the radial tires. Radial tires will give a smoother ride, better traction, better fuel consumption and will run cooler than bias tires. This allows them to generally last longer than bias tires. It sounds like you will be using this trailer fairly frequently and for occasional longer trips, so radial is definitely what I recommend.
A really good option is the Provider ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 13" Vesper White Mod Wheel # TA43RR. These provider tires are my personal favorite for a radial tire and they are definitely a step up in quality compared to other brands. This one comes pre-mounted on a 5 on 4-1/2" while wheel.
I am assuming your trailer uses the standard 5 bolt pattern, so if you have something different just let me know. We also have other wheel options available if you want something specific feel free to comment below.
