What Is An OEM Prep Package And How Do I Know If I Have It

Hello, I have a 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 and looking to install a 5th wheel hitch. I see that the various products reference an OEM Prep Pkg. Products are packaged for either with or without the OEM Prep Pkg. Can you tell me what the OEM prep package consists of and how to tell if my vehicle may have it?

The OEM prep package consists of 4 "pucks" in the bed of the truck that will allow you to drop in puck style hitches for easy installation and removal, that gives you a completely clear bed when not in use. The B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3775 you were looking at has four puck style feet that drop into the pucks and a lever on each leg that simply turns to lock or unlock the leg in the puck.

The prep package will typically also come with an in-bed 7-way to make connecting your 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer easier to do.

If you don't have the in-bed puck system from the factory then you will have to go with a gooseneck/turnoverball hitch, like # BWGNRK1020-5W, or a set of base rails, like # BWRVK2505, since there isn't an aftermarket puck system available for your 2022 GMC Sierra 2500. The in-bed 7-way you can easily install yourself with part # HM54FR.

Is the GMC 2500 prep package puck arrangement the same as the Ford F350? I have a Curt Q25 set up for a 2016 F350 and would like to move it over to a 2020 GMC 2500. Thanks

@GeorgeD GM unfortunately has a different puck spacing from Ford so you would need to swap out the feet on your Curt Q25 with part # CU53FR in order to fit the GM spacing.

Hey Justin, so I checked with B and W and they only have fits that run up to 2024 BUT since we know they 2024 and 2025 trucks are unchanged in terms of gooseneck hitches we know the Turnoverball part #BWGNRK1020 is a fit and will work great.
