Can I Transfer B&W Companion BWRVK3400 Over To New 2025 GMC 2500 HD?

Updated 10/29/2024 | Published 10/28/2024

Question:

I own a BandW Model RVK3405 that is mounted in my 2012 Ford F250, it uses the Turnover Ball systems I believe. I am buying a new 2025 GMC 2500 HD, I was wondering if this same hitch could work in the new truck?

Hello Joe, thanks for reaching out. If you were to install a B&W Tunoverball Gooseneck Hitch # BWGNRK1020 you would be able to easily transfer your # BWRVK3400 5th wheel hitch to your new truck.

If your new 2025 GMC 2500 HD comes with the factory puck system in the bed, you will need to buy a new base to fit the puck system. You will be able to re use the head unit from your BWRVK3400 hitch so you can buy just the base and save a bit of money.

If your new GMC is a short bed, use the slider base # BWRVB3775. If the new truck has a long bed use # BWRVB3710 for the base.

The truck would come with the "5th wheel/gooseneck prep package", which I understand to include a gooseneck ball mount in the bed, that I had hoped to mount my existing hitch into. I have no interest in modifying or supplementing the package that I am paying for to be included with the truck. Is there a reason the mount from the RVK3405 will not fit into the gooseneck mount included with the new truck?

@JoeF Yes there is. The RVK3405 mounts into a square hole that is unique to the B&W Turnoverball gooseneck hitch. The 5th wheel/gooseneck prep package in your GMC will have a round hole for the gooseneck ball, so there would be no way to install the RVK3405 into this. You will need to get a new base for the GMC puck system.

@JesseM My RVK3405 mounts into a round hole in my 2012 F250 truck bed, which is a Turnover Ball hitch system, www.turnoverball.com which takes me to B&W. A square peg can mount in to a round hole, if the circumference of the hole allows. So that is why I was wondering why the same square peg could not be mounted into the round hole provided by the new GMC truck? I just want to be sure there is not some other reason I am being forced into spending another $1200.

@JoeF Something isn't adding up here. All of the B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitches use a gooseneck ball with a square shank that drops into a square receptacle in the bed. Take a look at this part # BWGNXA2000. This is the ball for the B&W Turnoverball system. Is this not what you have in your truck? This would be the only way to install and use the RVK3405 hitch. If you take a look at the RVK3405 hitch on our site, part # BWRVK3400 you can see how the post coming off the bottom of the hitch is for a square hole. This would not work with the OEM puck system in a GMC truck. It cannot be mounted into a round hole.
