What Causes Grease Leaking Out of Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors
Updated 10/31/2022 | Published 10/28/2022 >
Question:
Hello sir or ma’am: I just recently replaced my axle and and hubs and bearing buddies. Took The trailer out. About 60 or so miles round trip. Took the silicone caps off the bearing buddies to check them and noticed all the grease I pumped into them came out on the front side of the bearing buddies and they are all the way push in now. Wondering what could be the problem or what causes that. I have a photo of them. Thank you for your time

It sounds like you just simply overfilled the Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors like part # BB1980A but not to worry, they do this by design so you didn't damage anything. The built-in pressure relief valve will allow grease to seep out the piston to avoid damaging the grease seal. I'd wipe away the extra grease and then just proceed as normal, there may be still some more that seeps out. Just be careful not to overfill the hubs next time, you'll want a bit of movement when you press on the edges of piston inside the bearing protector.
