Your friends are pretty close. We suggest replacing tires every 3-6 years or every 10K-12K miles, which ever comes first.

Most trailer tires do not get replaced due to mileage and instead age. If you are using tire guards to protect the tires from UV rays while being stored or storing the tire in a garage it will take a bit longer for dry rot to affect the tire. As soon as you start seeing dry rot you should go ahead and plan on replacing the tire.

On the other hand if you do not cover the tires and have them constantly exposed to UV rays, you are likely in need of replacements due to them being 4 years old now.

Thanks for your tire size! I highly recommend going with the Westlake ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E # LHWL304. This tire has a 2,830 max load at 80 psi, and a 75 MPH Speed rating making it a perfect tire for getting out on the highway and doing some long distance driving, or for just hitting your local camp ground. To keep these tires from being exposed to UV rays while being stored I recommend using the Adco Ultra Tyre Gard # 290-3953 in white or # 290-3973 in black. These covers are designed to protect the tire from harmful UV Rays that causes dry rotting and sidewall cracking. I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
