1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Let's take a look together at this Rambler ST 225/75R15 load range E radial trailer tire with a 15-inch Vesper black mod wheel with a six on 5 1/2 inch bolt pattern. This tire and wheel assembly is going to be ideal for your stock trailers, your utility trailers, and campers. This special trailer tire or ST tire has sturdy sidewalls so that it can handle heavy loads. And this is created specifically for trailers and not intended for use on other vehicles. This radial tire is constructed with double steel belts and double polyester cords for increased durability.
The nylon tread forming belt overlays are gonna help prevent tread separation. And the tread bars are going to give you a quick visual indicator of tread wear. Now as I mentioned at the beginning of our time together and as we have stamped here on our tire, this is an ST 225/75R15. It's a load range E, meaning it has a 10 ply rating. And the maximum load is 2,830 pounds at 80 PSI.
This has a speed rating of M indicating the maximum speed of 81 miles per hour. And this sturdy steel wheel features this modular design that you see here. And the black acrylic enamel finish is going to do a great job of resisting chipping and other damage better than those powder coat finishes. This finish is applied after a zinc phosphate pretreatment and it covers an ecoprimer layer. So this has an excellent corrosion resistance with a salt spray rating of more than 1,000 hours.
And that finish is just on the front of this wheel that is not on the the back of the wheel. Now this wheel does use beveled stud holes that are going to help keep your wheel securely in place on the trailer hub to keep this assembly firmly in place so you're not gonna have to constantly retighten the lug nuts. And the dimensions of our wheel from bead seat to bead seat is 15 inches in diameter. It's six inches wide. And as I mentioned, our bolt pattern is six on 5 1/2 inches.
And in case you don't know, the first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes and the second number is the diameter in inches of the circle on which the bolt hole sit. So to determine the bolt circle diameter on wheels with an even number of bolt holes, as we have here, it's gonna be very simple. You're just going to measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the bolt hole directly across from it. Now the wheel capacity is 3,080 pounds. The wheel stud size is 1/2 inch by 20. The center cap is sold separately, but if you pick one up, you just wanna make sure that it fits the pilot diameter of 4.25 inches. Now this tire and wheel assembly does meet the Department of Transportation specifications. The tire meets the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety standard specifications. And one final note, this tire and wheel assembly does come with a platinum plus warranty that includes compliment, complimentary, pardon me, roadside assistance for two years. So if your trailer has a flat tire, you're just gonna call the helpline and a technician will come and change out the flat tire with your existing inflated spare tire. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition to the roadside assistance, this warranty also includes other benefits and services.
