Question:
I have a 2022 Subaru Outback Limited XT and will be installing a C56040 wire harness and an ETBC7L 7-way adapter so that I can add a C51180 wireless brake controller. My question is, how do I route the wires/4-pin connector of the C56040 to go under/outside of the vehicle in order to hook up the ETBC7L vs. simply draping wires over the weather seal of the hatch?

The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat # C56040 is usually stored inside the truck section of your 2022 Subaru Outback Wagon, but it doesn't have to be. Especially as you will be upgrading the 4 Flat to a 7 Way.
Typically there will be a rubber plug under the spare tire that can be popped out for water drainage. It can be a little difficult to get passed through, but the 4 Flat plug can be run through this hole so it can be stored outside the vehicle. This will make installing the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation # ETBC7L significantly easier. One potential add on to mount the 7 Way will be the Tow Ready No-Drill Mount Bracket, Long # 18136. The included hose clamp makes this easy to mount an any hitch.
I included an install video of the # C56040 on a 2021 Outback Wagon showing the referred to plug that should help as well.
