Question:
Hello, I have a truck and camper that requires a 32 to 34inch hitch extension to carry a bike rack or small ATV trailer. The truck has a 3inch receiver. Im trying to decide on which one is best for my application taking into consideration capacity, weight of the extension, and the cost. Im considering the following: - Curt 24-34inch 45048 - Reese 24-34inch 45292 and - Torklift Cannon. I dont believe I will require a Super Truss hitch and extension. Please provide a comparison or advice. Thank you

Both the Curt # C45048 and the Reese # RP45292 hitch extensions would require using a 3 inch to 2-1/2 inch reducer sleeve # BWRHXA2183. This would work pretty well for towing but it would allow a hitch mounted accessory like a bike rack to bounce about quite a bit which would concern me. The bouncing force would increase the leverage applied to the extender and the hitch installed on the truck, so I'm not thrilled with either of those two solutions.
I'd prefer to see you use an extender specifically designed for a 3 inch receiver like the TorkLift Cannon for Ford OEM 3 inch receivers, part # TLE1636. The Cannon provides safety chains that stiffen up the connection at the hitch which allows less movement and bounce. Granted, the Super Cannon is by far the more expensive alternative but from a safety, performance and wear and tear standpoint it's the best option in my opinion.
