Recommended Trailer Bump Stop and Suspension Enhancement for Tandem Axle Trailer
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
I want to add bump stops to my LCI tandem axle suspension. What should the space be between axle and frame? My reason is to avoid spring over-load when ALL trailer wt is on ONE axle when backing over large hump into my storage spot, which causes tires on one axle to leave ground, or due to Andersen Rapid Jack use to remove a wheel.

The amount of space needed is going to vary depending on the spring that you use. If you use the Timbren Trailer Suspension Enhancement System Light-Duty Trailers 1,000 lbs # TTRA1702, those springs are only 2-3/4" tall so you can get away with fairly minimal clearance.
The other option would be the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs w/ Line Relocation Bracket - Single Axle - 3K to 5K - Underslung # TSS-106-40 for underslung axles or the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs w/ Line Relocation Bracket - Single Axle - 3K to 5K - Overslung # TSS-107-40 for overslung axles; these springs are 4" and 5" respectively and mount to the springs instead of the frame, so you'd want to measure from the spring pack to the frame to make sure you've got enough space for one of these kits to articulate fully. It sounds like these would be the best solution for your trailer if you can make them work, so you'll want to choose the appropriate kit based of whether your springs are mounted under or on top of your axle.
I've linked a great review video that explains all of this for you to check out.
