How to Install Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System on a 2005 Ford F-250

Today on this 2005 Ford F-250 Super Duty we are going to install Timbren rear suspension part number TFR250SDF. The first thing we need to do is go ahead and raise the truck in the air so we can lower our suspension. Now you do not have to remove the rear wheels but we are doing it just to make things a little bit easier to see. And what this product does is actually replaces the factory bump stop which is located right here. So our first step involved is to go ahead and unbolt it from the truck and remove it. Now there is a nut on top that we have to remove. Then we can lower it. 0:31

Ok, we will go ahead and show you the components that are being used on just one side of the vehicle. We have the actual rubber spring itself right here. We have a spacer. And this is the bracket that gets installed to the bottom of the frame of the truck itself. So they will go in this order: spring, spacer and the bracket. You will have hardware that will go through the spring and the spacer and then into here. And also, there are two additional holes here. So, you can adjust it left and right to center it with the stop that is located on the axle itself. Now this spacer block is optional. Basically, what you would end up with is about a 1/2 inch or less space between the stop on the bottom of the axle and the bottom of the spring. In this case we are pretty darn close so we need to work without the spacer. We are going to assemble it on the truck just like this and we did offset it to one side. We will go ahead and next bolt this to the bottom of the frame. We will use this short bolt, lock washer and a flat washer. And it will be assembled like that, with the frame in between. 1:36

Drop the bolt through and set on the bracket. Now there is a flat washer that is already trapped inside the spring. So, all we need to add on the inside is the bolt itself and lock washer. Hold it kind of level to get everything lined up so you can run it through the washer. On this particular application, we are going to use this hole right here. And we are going to install a lock nut that is going to sit on top of the plate right here. And with a couple of bolts our suspension enhancement system is installed. Alright, with that that will finish it for our install of part number TFR250SDF from Timbren.

I previously emailed a question regarding the install of the Firestone Air System air bags for my 2006 Ford F250, Diesel, Crew Cab 4x4 that has a Husky 5th manual slide 5th wheel currently installed. I didnt know that the Timbren Enhancement System. My question is simply which suspension system would give me the best ride when Im not towing my 5th wheel trailer, the air bag system vs. Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System/ Sumo Enhancement System? I rarely carry anything heavy on the bed of my truck. Thank you for your consideration.

If the factory suspension is in good shape, then the Timbrens should not make contact with the axle and should not affect ride. Likewise, if the airbags are kept at 5 or 10 psi, they will not really have an effect on the ride. Now, if the suspension has some miles and loads on it, it may be somewhat lower due to springs that have flattened out a little. If the Timbrens do make contact with the axle with no load in the bed or trailer, then they will make the ride rougher and your only course would be to replace the original suspension or contact Timbren for a custom length spring. If ride quality is of the utmost concern, I would look at the airbags from Firestone. Just make sure you keep the minimum air pressure in them.
