Recommended Flat Tow Setup for a 2014 Chevy Captiva Sport
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
I have a 2014 Chevy Captiva 60k+ miles. I currently have been using a Kar Kady 3, and want to move to a flat towing setup with my 2019 Four Winds 28z. a couple of questions... What is a really good set up for me to buy 100 inclusive of components needed? Im 100 new to flat towing. Is a trickle battery charger a good idea? I am attracted to the permanent install braking systems, but the car has 60k miles. Can I remove the main unit and buy new hardware for it when I switch cars? Installation. I live very near Wentzville, Mo. I would like to have the parts installed. You have installed part on this car before btw. What is the charge to have you all install them? Help please! Thanks

I can definitely help you out with parts to flat tow your 2014 Chevy Captiva Sport. I really like the Demco setup you were looking at because Demco offers a few kits that include just about everything that you need, plus they have very nice tow bars that will last you a long time which you can use on future vehicles you choose to flat tow.
For a base plate kit use part # DM9518218 and the the Demco tow bar I recommend is the Dominator # DM9511008 because it has a 7,500 lb weight capacity and it has an aluminum construction for durability, both of which reduce the probability of you needing a new tow bar for future vehicles.
If you use the Combo Kit # DM9523057 you not only get the wiring that you need but you also get locks and a tow bar cover to help keep your Dominator tow bar nice and attached to your 2019 Four Winds. For wiring in the future you just need the Wiring Kit # DM9523010-54 which comes with all of the wiring components in this combo kit.
You don't necessarily require the Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 but it wouldn't hurt anything to use it. Your owner's manual does call for a fuse to be removed so I recommend having the Fuse Bypass # RM76511 installed so that you can disconnect it with the flip of a switch instead of having to physically remove it.
Your 2019 Four Winds 28Z should have hydraulic brakes so the braking system you would want is part # SM99251. This braking system installs permanently on your vehicle (which makes it easy to use and it stays out of the way when you aren't flat towing) but when you're ready to transfer it to a different vehicle you can use the Reinstall Kit # SM6270 to do so.
A lot of flat towing setups might require the use of a high-low adapter to keep the tow bar level while towing a vehicle but since the Demco Dominator has some built-in adjustments it minimizes the chances of you needing one. I have linked a helpful article for you to reference to see if this applies to you. If it does then I have also linked our selection of adapters for you to filter through.
In regards to having our team installing it, you definitely can, you just need to reach out to our Customer Service team at the link below to get an install set up and to get an estimate on pricing.
