How to Wire Up Furrion Back Up Camera on RV That Won't Drain the Battery
Published 02/08/2019 >
Question:
For your 2018 Forest River 197BH, I recommend the Furrion RV Observation Camera System w/ Monitor and Bracket # FOS43TASF. This camera is prewired in your trailer to function when you shift into reverse. It can be rewired to work anytime the running lights are on if you change the power wire location in your trailer to the running light circuit so you will have a constant view. Connected the camera , red to red black to black everything works great. But the camera never shuts off, and drains the batteries. Is there a way to power off camera other than disconnecting ground on main battery?

Expert Reply:
The power wire of the camera shouldn't be ran directly to the trailer battery as it will drain it over time as it will stay on. You need to instead run the power wire to either the running light circuit (my pick) or the reverse light circuit so that it only turns on when you want it to. Those circuits get power from the tow vehicle too instead of from the trailer battery so when wired up like that you'd never have to worry about draining the battery.
