If I wire backup cameras into reverse light circuit will they work all the time or only when in reverse?

Expert Reply:

This will depend on your camera and how it is wired. On a camera like the VueSMART # HM34FR the power going to the camera is what powers the camera and if on the reverse circuit it would power on and then be able to connect only when in reverse. On other systems such as a Voyager # ASA52FR power for the camera runs through the cable. You do tie into the reverse and turn signal circuits which then tells the monitor that camera needs to be displayed. This type of camera will typically have the back camera always on and activate the side cameras when the turn signals are used.
