How Much Cargo Weight Can 2009 Honda CR-V Carry in Trailer Hitch Cargo Carrier
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
Hello, I am looking at getting a class 3 trailer hitch and cargo basket for a 2009 Honda CRV. My question is about the weight capacity. If I am correct the towing limit is 1500lbs, so the tongue weight should be 150lbs. If that is correct does this mean I can load a cargo carrier with 150lbs of luggage? Do I subtract the weight of the basket or hitch from the total weight? And does the amount of people in the car change the weight limit?

You are correct that your 2009 Honda CR-V has a tongue weight capacity of 150 lbs regardless of what hitch you install on it. So if you install a Class III hitch like the Draw Tite part # 75547 and then install a folding cargo carrier in it like the Curt # C18151 you'd need to subtract the weight of the carrier from the tongue weight capacity to determine how much you could carry in the carrier. This carrier weighs 70 lbs so you'd have 80 lbs left over for cargo.
I attached a review video for this carrier on a similar 2015 Honda CR-V for you to check out as well. I also attached an install video for the hitch mentioned.
