Question:
What about dry hitch weight of 390 and GVWR of 5,200

Expert Reply:
The Electric tongue jack for a trailer is determined by the actual tongue weight of the trailer. Normally this is 10-15% of the total trailer weight when loaded, but a jack is one area where having something rating larger than needed will not cause an issue. We have jacks ranging from 1,400 lbs to 5,000 lbs rated capacity and with tongue jacks they are almost always rated far higher than the actual tongue weight because a 1400 lb tongue weight is quite a bit and 5,000 lbs would be more than most 5th wheel trailers.
So the vague ratings aren't extremely helpful. To give some perspective, a small boat trailer would use the 1400 lb jack and a 16 foot enclosed cargo trailer would use a 3,500 or 4,500 lb tongue jack.
For most trailers, I recommend the Stromberg Carlson Electric Jack # JET-5000 because it isn't bulky but will be stronger than most needs and you don't want anything to operate at 100% capacity all the time. This recommendation is due to the design of the jack in addition to the customer feedback we receive.
