Question:
I have a 2015 Tacoma with towing package including a 7 pin hitch connector. All lights on trailer work fine. I have a TK90160 controller from my car that I want to put into the truck when I use it. Do I use a 3040-P wire harness for this and what location is recommended?

The # 3040-P is indeed the correct brake control wiring adapter for your 2015 Tacoma. Due to the presence of the knee airbag, the preferred location to the right of the steering column might not be feasible. If there's not a suitable location to the right of the steering column where the controller could be mounted so that it's parallel to the direction of travel, you'll need to consider an alternate spot.
If you watch one of the videos I've linked you to, you can see the controller being installed to the left of the steering column. If you think you can enter and exit the vehicle without hitting your knees on it, this might be a good location. I've also seen folks install the controller in the center console, as shown in the other video. I believe the center console location makes for a neater looking install, but it would be a more involved process and you might need to lengthen the wires on the wiring adapters.
If you plan on swapping the controller back and forth between the two vehicles, you can obtain a replacement mounting clip, part # 6927 for the second vehicle.

I am in the process of purchasing a 2015 Toyota Tundra Limited. Has Toyota developed a trailer brake controller kit that is a perfect fit as in all models 2016 and newer?
