Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

I was able to install the new eTrailer hitch with the brackets on each side of my vehicle by removing the spare tire, my wife assisted and we had to pull the muffler to the side using a pry bar to get this eTrailer hitch receiver into the mounting spot on the under into vehicles sub frame mounting area. Once in place i used a tool box to prop the hitch and keep it lined up with the pre drilled and tapped towing hitch holes for the Mazda and that’s where my problem existed. The first 2 large M12 1.25 bolt holes on each side of each bracket on my vehicle were brand new never used and I cleaned the threads with some penetrating oil. Then I used a RYOBI 18V ratchet to start threads on my M12 bolts and this worked well for the lag bolts then I used a torque wrench set to the 86 ft lbs while I used the smaller M8 bolt just using my RYOBI ratchet because it tops out at 20 ft lbs after all holes were lined up on the bracket with the mounting sub frame on the vehicle to keep the bracket in place. I began to torque specs on 4 of the 6 lag bolts but, not the back lag bolt on each bracket while I used an extension socket to install these because of the space constraint I ended up needing to use an impact ratchet to continue torque. While I couldn’t literally turn the torque wrench any further under the vehicle everything ended up flush for the lag bolts before it torqued to 86 ft lbs. But, those back lag bolts one on each side of each corner toward the outer bumper had either been used for a bike rack or just a lot of rust but, I could only get the threads to torque on the back of each bracket to 50 ft lbs. and the bolt seems stuck in as all looks flush and is for the towing hitch mounted flat against the sub frame. I’m now seeking a welder in my area to complete the install by tac welding the 1 bolt in the back of the each sides bracket to reassure the trailer hitch is mounted in place more secure. Also looking to have a weld added to the bracket for more strength and still include using the bolts. A weld with the existing 2 lag bolts that were each torqued to the 86 ft lbs on each bracket with the stuck bolt in at 50 lbs on each side should be more than enough to tow up to the 3600 lbs limit. Pictures show the eTrailer installed and flush mounted bolts onto the subframe and it’s really strong but, to reassure I’m looking to get an extra weld added to complete the deal before I tow anything.

It's been a year or so since we got this trailer hitch. Highly recommended, no issues!!

I already responded through an email, the hitch appears to be undamaged, it was lose in the box and punched 2 roughly 3" x 4" holes in the side of the box, the bolt kit is missing, my guess it went out through one of the holes! The Curt Wiring harness blister pack was pulverized by the 35 lb hitch and it's contents scattered all over the inside of the hitch package, I'm still checking to see if anything is missing or damaged, It looks like it went through a cement mixer! The tube of RTV sealant is now spread over the hitch and dried! The Curt Harness really should have been in a more substantial box, then placed in the hitch box for shipment! A blister pack will not survive floating around with a 35 lb hunk of iron! Other wise I'm satisfied It appears to be a very well built hitch!

I happened upon this website when looking for a hitch receiver for my 2013 Mazda CX-9. From Google, I clicked on a hitch receiver that did NOT fit my car, but etrailer.com has an option to check if the part fits your car by entering in make, model, year, so I did that and it guided me to this product and a few others. I selected this model as I didn't need a wiring harness for my intended use.
I liked that I had free shipping as it's a heavy item, plus it arrived in 3 days. The same day I received the hitch receiver, I started to install it.

I did run into one small issue. It was either with one of the provided bolts or the holes on the receiver itself. Either the bolt was not threaded correctly or the holes on the hitch receiver were JUST a hair too small, because it just would NOT go in like the rest. Either way, I was able to rethread the bolt and provide enough pressure to the hitch receiver to get it to catch.

The thing I like most about this hitch receiver is that I didn't need to cut into the car itself for it to fit. Some vehicles require that, but for my CX-9 and this receiver, I was able to fit it without the need to cut anything out and still have easy access to the receiver.

I'm really happy with the product and have already used it with a cargo carrier across several states.

It seems this company is either really small or extremely customer service focused as each step of the way from purchase to delivery showed a picture and name of whoever was handling your product, which for some people is a big deal. Overall great product and company. Very pleased to finally have a hitch receiver on my car.

The trailer hitch arrived in just a few days and was well packaged. I won't be able to have it installed until mid to late September since so many places are short staffed, but the trailer hitch looks good to me.

I purchase two different products and installed both, back to back. I did used a jack to lift one side, so it took about 45 minutes to finesse this one into/onto my Mazda CX-9. I needed a helper (wife) which made it much easier. This is for a bike rack. Ordered Friday and delivered Monday, fast, fast. Thank you.

by:

Was able to install in less than 30 minutes, with a good ratchet and socket set. The initial 'getting hitch into position' was a little of a geometry problem. We had to turn it upside down and come into slot around the spare tire just right, kinda tricky, but doable. Great product, would highly recommend thus company.

by:

Not much you can say, fits great, I would not hesitate to purchase again. I read about many folks complaining about how hard it was to get the receiver around the heat shields. I was able to easily do it without raising car, you just have to study it for a second. You stick the backend up first and then rotate it in place by bringing the working end up to position.

A bit more direction in the box would have been helpful but not required. Like which side of the odd washers that they use face the bolt head. I remember etrailer mentioning something in the video I watched before buying but I didn't want to waste my time to clean up and go back to the house and find the install video.
On my 2013 CX-9 the back of the hitch makes it so the spare tire won't go in place without holding the tire at an angle as you crank it past the hitch...hold the side of the tire closest to the rear of the car higher.

The attached pictures also show the bike rack I bought here as well, attached to the new receiver on the back of 2013 CX-9. Seems I can't get in to see previous orders to get the bike rack info or write a review on it.

by:

Well designed, well made, and a perfect fit for my 2008 CX-9. I removed the spare tire to give myself as much clearance as possible, and I would recommend that if you cannot get your car up on a hydraulic lift. (I also suggest you get a second person to help, unless you are as stubborn and determined as me!) I am 5'7", weight 130lbs, but I completely installed this myself with the car on the ground. As others have noted, the heat shield on each muffler needs to be bent out of the way, but after installation they very easily bend back into shape. Nice trailer hitch, nice price, easy installation. Slam dunk.

5 stars for the etrailer site. The product descriptions, tutorial videos and customer ratings are the best I have seen. The install video saved me a lot of time. The trailer hitch for my 2007 CX-9 was a little time consuming for a one person installation. REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE to give yourself as much access as possible. After spraying WD40 in the well nuts and cleaning them out, I was able to position the hitch and get a bolt started on each side. To make my life easier, I used the car jack and a 2X4 to hold the hitch in position to get the rest of the bolts started. I used a ratchet to tighten each bolt and finished with the torque wrench. My only issue was that I needed an open end wrench to tighten 2 of the bolts on the driver side next to spare tire cable carrier housing (see photo) to create the clearance to get the torque wrench on those bolts. I'm very happy with the hitch and etrailer, I have already placed another order for more accessories.
