A Solution for Rough Rides

Have you ever hit a bump while towing and had that road shock jostle and shake you all the way down to your bones? It's a common feeling. Most ball mounts are made almost completely of metal, so there's nothing to help soften the shock when you hit a bump. This results in a bumpy, jerky ride that not only takes a toll on you as you drive, but it beats up your equipment too, leading to premature wear and tear on both your truck and trailer.

Fortunately, the Shocker Hitch HD Air will change all that.

Air Bag and Bumper Stop Shock Absorption Technology

Shocker Hitch Air Bag

Using a built-in air bag and rubber cushions, the Shocker Hitch HD Air acts like a small suspension system between your truck and trailer. The air bag and bumpers help absorb road shock, creating a smoother, more comfortable ride while also protecting your truck and trailer from unnecessary wear and tear on the brakes, chassis, trailer frame, and suspensions.

Shocker Hitch Bumper Cushion

The body of the Shocker Hitch HD Air is designed to pivot back and forth on the shank, kind of like a seesaw or teeter totter, as the air bag, which sits directly beneath your truck's receiver, and the cushioned bumpers take turns absorbing the road shock.

Shocker Hitch Pivot

When you hit a bump and your trailer bounces, the unit pivots so that the air bag can isolate and absorb the energy. When your trailer jerks forward or backward, the 2 cushioned bumper stops help soften the force.

Customize Amount of Shock Absorption

Shocker Hitch Bumper Cushion

Using the easily accessible air valve on the side of the unit, you can adjust the air pressure in the Shocker Hitch Air's air bag to best accommodate your trailer's load. If you're hauling heavy-duty landscaping equipment, for example, you can add air to account for the increased capacity. Once the equipment is unloaded, simply release some air so that your underloaded trailer won't experience a stiff ride.

How to Air Up Shocker Hitch><br class=

Finding the right pressure for your setup is simple. Once you've hooked up your trailer and the tongue weight is pushing down on the hitch ball, there will be a gap between the top of the adjustable channel and bumper.

Shocker Hitch Air Bag PSI><br class=

Inflate the air bag until the bumper rests flush against the top of the hitch. Once the gap is gone, you'll know the air bag has the appropriate amount of air pressure for your load.

If you happen to get stuck in a situation where you're unable to inflate the bag, there's no need to worry; you can still tow your trailer. Without the inflated air bag, you won't get the full benefit of the Shocker Hitch HD Air, but you'll still get some built-in cushion with the bumper stops.

Adjustable Drop Hitch for Towing Different Trailers

How to Adjust Shocker Hitch Height

Adjusting the height of the hitch ball to accommodate for a different trailer takes almost no time at all. Just unclip the adjustment pins and grab the easy-to-grasp handles to remove them. Then slide the ball platform up or down to the desired position. You can also flip the platform depending on whether you need the 2" or 2-5/16" ball. Once you have the correct height and ball size, reinsert the pins and secure the clips, and fold back the handles so they're out of the way. Then you're ready to go.

Video Transcript for Review of Shocker Hitch Trailer Hitch Ball Mount - HD Air Adjustable 2 Ball 2" Hitch - SHK95VR

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today we're going to take a look at this Shocker Hitch HD air receiver with adjustable two ball mount for your two inch hitch. Now this heavy duty, shock absorbing hitch features an airbag and cushion to bump stops that are going to provide a smooth and comfortable ride while limiting chucking and jerking. This is going to give you better control of your tow vehicle and trailer, helping to extend the life of your truck and trailer by protecting them from a unnecessary wear and tear. And reducing noise and rattle that's common when towing with standard ball mounts.

This is going to be ideal for trailers between 10,000 and 16,000 pounds. Now, this is going to hook your trailer to your tow vehicle with this included adjustable two ball mount with a two inch and a two and five sixteenths inch hitch balls that are welded to this mount for added stability. It's going to let you tow trailers with different coupler sizes. Now the maximum gross towing weight with the two and five 16 inch ball is 16,000 pounds, with a tongue weight of 1,600 pounds. But you do want to remember that a towing setup is always limited by its lowest rated component, whether that be your vehicle, your hitch, or another component.

Now included are two easy-to-remove pins. They have these large rings are going to be very easy to grasp and hold onto. I can fit up to four of my fingers through each of these rings. And so they're going to be very easy to grasp. No more fumbling with small hitch pin heads.

And not only that, we also have these larger safety clips. It's going to make securing the pins very easy. And also removing them very easy, as well. And I just want to give you a brief demonstration of how easy it is to adjust the ball platform on these Shocker Hitches. So I'm going to go ahead and remove these pins.

And I currently have this set on the two inch ball. I'm just going to go ahead and rotate it and drop it down here a little bit and replace my pins. And so I have that now. I now have that set on the two and five sixteenths inch pitch ball. And this is going to give you a drop range of about one and a half inches to five and a half inches. And the inside width of this channel is three and three quarters inches wide. And then, the distance between the vertical adjustment holes is one inch, center to center. Now you can mount any Shocker Hitch accessory, including a pencil hook, a clevis pin, and drawbar attachments into this in the channel to hook up even more trailers. Of course, those attachments are sold separately. But if you're interested in checking those out, you can find them under the related product section on this product page. Now this air hitch works like a teeter totter with the airbag on one end and your trailer coupler on the other end. And as your trailer exerts force downward, the unit pivots and the airbag is going to absorb the energy. When your trailer jerks backward or pushes forward, these two cushion bump stops are going to reduce the force for a smoother ride. Now, this airbag is easily adjustable for heavier loads. You're just going to add more air. And for lighter loads, you're going to let air out. And included is this valve here, where you can easily adjust the air in the airbag. And a cap is also included, as well. And so to determine the correct amount of air to use, you just simply hook your trailer up and then load the trailer the way that you are going to tow it. And then you're going to add air to the airbag until these bump stops begin to compress. Once they begin to compress, then you should have the right amount of air in the airbag for your load. And you're ready to go. The Zerk fitting here on the opposite side, at the pivot point, is going to make lubricating that pivot point very easy. This is made in the USA of grade 50 steel plate construction and a cold rolled steel shank, to provide maximum durability. It is also shot blasted and powder coated to prevent rust. And the steel ball attachment is zinc plated. Again, this is going to fit your two inch trailer hitch receivers. The hitch pin hole diameter is five eighths of an inch. This does not include a pin and clip. That is sold separately. So if you do not already have a compatible pin and clip, that would be a separate purchase. However, since this is really an investment that you are making, I would recommend taking a look at the InfiniteRule locking pins for shock or hitch ball mounts for two inch and two and a half inch hitches. You are going to get three pins. Two to lock your attachment to your hitch. And then one to lock your hitch to your trailer hitch on the back of your vehicle. And I am including our item number to those locking pins on your screen. And I think that would be a good item to check out to make sure that you are securing this investment to the back of your vehicle. Now, the distance from the first hitch pin hole to the center of the ball is going to be about 10 and a quarter inches. And from the second hitch pin hole to the center of our ball is about 11 and a quarter inches. This does require a minimum of seven inches of clearance between the center of the hitch pin hole and the rear most point of your truck, and five inches of clearance below the bottom of your receiver, too. This is not going to fit SUVs, CUVs, or sedans, due to limited clearance. And this is not going to fit a two and a half inch hitch, even with a reducer sleeve, because trucks with a two and a half inch hitch have deeper frames. So your receiver opening should be flush with the bumper or protruding from the rear of the vehicle for the best fit. Well, that's going to conclude our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me..

  • How Does Shocker Hitch Air Cushioned Trailer Coupler - Adjustable Channel Install on Travel Trailer
The Shocker Hitch Air Cushioned Trailer Coupler part # SHK73RR will require an adjustable channel on the trailer in order to mount. An example of this is the Trailer Tongue Vertical Channel Weld-On Adaptor part # SHK95RR which requires removing the old coupler and welding this one on. This setup isn't very common for most travel trailers so if you don't want to do a bunch of modifying to the trailer I recommend going with the Shocker Hitch HD Air Cushioned 2-Ball Mount part # SHK95VR which...

  • Is There Anything to Isolate Trailer Shock for Bumps
We do have a variety of products that are designed to help absorb shock from trailer movement like what you're talking about. For example, the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs # TSS-106-40 act like aftermarket bump stops for a vehicle but they help to cushion and add some control to your trailer suspension, but then the Shocker HD Air Receiver Hitch - Combination Ball Mount # SHK95VR is a shock absorbing ball mount that helps to isolate trailer movement from transferring to the tow vehicle. • Selecting a Cushioned Ball Mount Capable of a 3" Drop Which Fits a 2" Hitch Receiver
I have a few options depending on the amount you will be towing and how adjustable you want to hitch to be for other trailers. First is the Curt RockerBall Anti-Rattle Towing Kit # C63KR. This uses a standard style ball mount with a cushioned 2" hitch ball. This will be set at the 3" height and is not adjustable but is the most economical of the choices. The Gen-Y Glyder Shock Absorbing Ball Mount # 325-GH-12005 is a cushioned mount. It does allow you to bolt the bracket from a 0-6" drop...
