Our family has been in the classic car business since 1969.....I have chained a trailer hitch on the back bumper many times and headed out for California...very recently my sister bought a vending route along with a 1 ton van....she bought a new trailer hitch somewhere and wanted me to drill holes in the frame because it wasn't the correct one...I found etrailer online and called...the product was here overnight and Suz installed it herself!!.....I highly recommend etrailer..... thank Katie D!

1998 Ford Edge

Love the video. It was a great help in installing this hitch. Very easy to follow. Nice tip with the silicone adhesive to hold the washers in place. The receiver edge sits back under my bumper about 5 in. Unfortunately a little bit farther back than my previous hitch so I have to buy new ball mounts now. Would have been nice if the hitch had been designed to angle back to end up at the edge of the bumper. There are not very many ball mount options for where it sits.
But I found what I needed. The hitch is on and looks sturdy. And soon I'll be able to tow again once I receive the ball mounts from etrailer.com

1998 Ford Five Hundred

This hitch receiver works as it should. It came well finished, with clear instructions and all the hardware needed to install it. I had a question about possible clearance issues and called etrailer customer support. The tech was great and answered all of my questions. The hitch receiver fit great, no additional drilling was needed. I also was able to reinstall my spare tire under the van, which my older hitch receiver did not allow enough space for.

I have a step bumper on my 1998 Ford E350 van. I was going to use if for my hitch mounted tilt up, cargo carrier, with a 500 pound capacity. This hitch receiver sets back a couple inches too far from the step bumper and would not allow the cargo carrier to tilt up, unless I used a hitch extension. I used an 8" extension with a 5k tow and 500 pound tongue capacity. Using a hitch extension will decrease your load capacity. So, make sure the hitch extension is capable of handling the load you will be putting on it.

The Curt products I received are as described, high quality and were well packed. The hitch fits the 27-year-old vehicle. I was glad to have such a large range of products across different brands, and the prices were the best I found. The shipment of hitch receiver, ball mount, ball, etc., got here just a few days after I ordered it. I didn't expect such fast shipping. I will recommend etrailer.

  • Distance Between Mounting Holes of the Curt Hitch 14053
I spoke with my contact at Curt and he informed me that the distance between the bolt holes centers on this Curt Class IV Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # 14053, is 38-1/2 inches. You would need to compare that distance to the your frame rails to see if the mounting holes of this hitch would be compatible with your frame. If your outside to outside measurement is 42 inches this SHOULD work well, but I would still recommend measuring.

  • Drop of Curt Class IV Trailer Hitch # 14053
According to my contact in the Tech Services department at Curt Manufacturing, the drop, or distance between the top of the mounting flange of the # 14053 Class IV hitch and the top of the receiver tube is exactly 2 inches. You can see this in the photo I have edited for you. I have also linked you to the installation instructions.

For your 1989 Ford E-350 van I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # 14053. This is a Class lV trailer hitch and it has a 2 inch receiver opening. The notches on this hitch # 14053 are not designed to fit around the rivets. Rather the hitch flange will sit directly below the rivets. This hardware kit includes steel spacers which go between the frame and the hitch. These allow the hitch it be installed without interference from the rivets. • Trailer Hitch Fit for 1998 Ford E-350 Van
We do have a trailer hitch for you, though the Ford E-350 didn't have a Super Duty version available until 1999, so what you have is an Econoline model (and just as a note, we don't have a way of searching anything by VIN so this was based on research; you may want to call that VIN into a local Ford dealer). Having said that, the correct trailer hitch receiver for a 1998 Ford E-350 Econoline is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 14053. Additionally, if you plan on towing and need a trailer...

When it comes to installing a trailer hitch on your 42 inch wide minibus I recommend The Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs, 22 inch to 72 inch Wide # 13703. The trailer hitch has a high-gloss black powder coat finish that resists rust, corrosion, and is resistant to scratches and UV damage. The hitch will fit a frame width between 22 inches to 72 inches, and the trailer hitch has a maximum gross trailer weight up to 3,500 pounds and has a maximum tongue weight of 350 pounds....

  • Comparing Curt Class III and Class IV Trailer Hitches for 1999 Ford Van
There are two views on this scenario...but yes the Curt hitch part # 13053 with a 5,000 lb capacity and the part # 14053 with a 10,000 lb capacity both fit your 1999 Ford Van. So since you know you don't need the additional capacity there really isn't much to gain by going with the higher rated hitch so why spend the extra money? But if you think you might ever need to tow a heavier trailer then it does make the most sense to get the higher rated hitch. That's how I'd approach the choice...

  • Hitch Needed for 2004 Ford Cut-Away Van Chassis
The three inch drop needed is going to be the problem. All the hitches we offer for the 2004 Ford Van have a 2 inch drop, so unfortunately your bumper would be in the way. Your best bet would be to either have a hitch fabricated or to have some fab work done to the underside of the frame to add 1 inch of drop so a hitch like the 14053 you referenced could be used. You, or your welder would be on their own to do the engineering work to ensure a Class IV weight capacity. If a Class III...

It has a maximum gross trailer weight of 10,000 lbs and a maximum tongue weight of 1,000 lbs. This is a custom fit receiver that bolts directly onto your van without any welding. The length of the mounting brackets for the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 14053 is 15-1/8" as you can see from the attached photo. Since the frame is extended past the regular body length it could very well affect the towing capacity of your motorhome so it would be wise to do some research on that and maybe reach out to the manufacturer as well to get their take on it. • Will Curt 14053 Class IV Hitch Fit 1990 Ford E350 Cutaway Chassis Shuttle Bus
Possibly. The Curt # 14053 Class IV hitch could fit, but it would depend on the vertical height difference between the underside of the van's frame and the lowest portion of the back bumper, which is also known as the drop. You'll need to measure downward from the underside of the van's frame until you clear the bumper. If this distance is less than 2 inches, the Curt # 14053 would fit. If the drop distance is 2 inches or greater, you'll need to go with a weld-on hitch like the Draw-Tite...

For wiring which will give your full size van a 4-way connector and allow you to power your trailer's lights you need Wiring Harness # 118344. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class IV - 2" # 14053 is a confirmed fit for the Ford Full Size Van but it is not a fit for a cab and chassis like you have which has a slightly wider frame. My recommendation due to the weight you will be towing is to use the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Service Body Trailer Hitch Receiver - Weld On - Class V - 2" # 41991-07. This is a weld on versus bolt on option, but all the bolt on options won't allow for the capacity you need.
