Features to know about

Get Through Light Snow with Confidence: Low-Profile Cable Chains Keep You Moving

When those unexpected snow flurries hit, these Glacier cable tire chains give you the traction you need to stay in control. The ladder-style pattern grips well as you move forward, helping you climb snowy driveways or make it through mountain passes with ease. They’re perfect for light snow conditions and for those times you just need to meet chain requirements without the bulk of heavy steel chains.

Drive Smoothly on Snow-Covered Roads: Spring Rollers Provide a Quiet, Easy Ride

Unlike traditional chains that can be rough and noisy, these use low-profile spring rollers wrapped around sturdy wire cross cables for a smoother ride. You’ll feel more stability and less vibration on the road, making them a great choice for longer drives through light snow or icy patches. The design keeps your ride comfortable while still adding that extra bite for traction when you need it most.

Built to Perform and Last: Case-Hardened, Low-Carbon Steel Construction

Even though they’re lightweight, these cables are tough. The case-hardened, low-carbon steel holds up well against wear, giving you strength where it matters most. Whether you’re getting out of a snowy parking lot or keeping a set in your trunk for emergencies, the durable build means they’re ready when you need them.

Perfect for Tight Wheel Wells: SAE Class S Compatible Design

If you’ve got limited clearance around your wheels, these cables are designed with you in mind. They meet SAE Class S standards, so they’ll fit where standard chains can’t. That makes them ideal for modern vehicles that need a slim, reliable traction device without risking damage to suspension or brake components.

Ready When You Need Them: Compact Storage and Quick Setup

These cables install easily with an integrated lever and pack neatly into the included reusable tote. They’re simple to keep in your trunk for any “just in case” winter trip. Add a set of Glacier rubber adjusters (sold separately) for a snug fit, and you’re ready to take on that next snowy stretch of road with peace of mind.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

I couldn't get my motor home back from repair because of deep snow so looked around for chains and settled on these cable chains. If it wasn't for the -25 wind chill making my fingers numb installing would have been easy. The only problem was one lever lock wouldn't stay closed. I can cure that but hope to never use them again. Great product!

2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Ok for light duty use. Definitely not off road( and they don’t claim off road either). The locking device would be suspect. I haven’t tried them on ice yet but I’ll try and update when I do.
The inner retainer seems to be decent. It pulled stuff in tight and might fare better than plastics in extreme cold.
by:
I did not get to actually use the chains but I did put them on before the trip and they went on very easy
by:
I am giving this product one star short of "excellent" only because they have not ever been used since purchased - and I hope it stays that way. I do think it's a solid product as I have practiced putting these chains on my SUV just in case I will need them and reasonably priced. Thanks!
by:
These chains appear to be what I need, I will be traveling from the deep south to the Tetons in February and just might have a need for chains on a very seldom basis. These chains appear to be much easier to put on and take off, and the price is very good.

I do want to commend etrailer.com customer service (Bridget A). I called to try to correct an error I made on my online order and she was excellent in correcting my problem - - thank you Bridget.

I still have the chains in the bag, but they have never been on my tires. I was really glad to not have to use them, but have them ready for the next trip to the snow for just in case.

While not as aggressive as all-link chains I found this design to provide good traction in snow and moderate icing conditions. Chains are light weight, easy to mount, and store in compact container when not in use. Design provides extra measure of protection for brake, suspension, and body components where clearances are reduced by tire/wheel size or custom modifications.

There isn't a lot of excitement when it comes to tire chains and adjusters unless it is when you need them and you don't have them, or you have them and they don't fit, or you have them and they don't work. With etrailer I managed to miss ALL the excitement! As always I received excellent sales and shipping service to get me the correct chains and adjusters in time for an unscheduled trip, they fit to a "T", and provided excellent traction with no sidewall wear or impact with body or brake components. I always marvel at finding the best service for truck and trailer equipment half way across the country rather than in my own backyard.

Still have not had an opportunity to use them they were purchased to use on a trip to Colorado in the winter. Fortunately we didn’t have to use them.

Great price for peace of mind for upcoming ski trip. Have not used in the bad weather yet but when we practiced putting them on it was very easy to install the chains. Watching the product installation video on etrailer's website made the installation easier, compared to just reading the written instructions. They come in a nice carry case and the cable chains don't seem as bulky as traditional chains. Will have to see how they work, though. Shipping was extremely quick with etrailer.

Buick Enclave
I went to my local tire person in Turlock and they said the only thing that would work on my Buick Enclave was a traction device that required my lug nuts to be removed to put it on. I just needed some type of chain/cable in case Inter-State 5 had snow on for a planned trip in a couple of weeks.

I searched the internet and this company showed up. I read some of the reviews and decided to give them a call. The person I talked to knew about tire traction devices and told me a small cable will work on my car and still be legal in the State of California. I gave them my credit card and my cables showed up on the date promised. I will use them again should I need cables/chains in the future.
by:
I received my snow chains/cables very quickly, in time for our latest round of bad weather. I test fitted them and they seem a little loose but my tires on have about 1/4 of the tread left. If the tires were new or newer, they would fit better. I tried to put them back in the storage bag they came in and it ripped apart at the seams. So while I think the chains are good quality I can not give them highest marks based on the bag. Customer service gets an A+

Outstanding product and customer service!!! And I highly recommend contacting etrailer before going to your local auto parts store or dealer. They gave me a better price and great professional advice. Unlike most retailers, the sales reps at etrailer kept me informed during every step of the ordering and shipping process. I was especially surprised at how fast I received the snow chains--only 3 business days and the shipping was free. More importantly, the chains were a perfect fit to my truck model and tire size.

I have not used the tire chains yet but was grateful for the prompt recommendation for tire chains and chain tensioners for my vehicle. The order arrived on time in just a few days and is now waiting for use!

2017 Ford F-150
Worked great for my 2017 Ford F 150 STX with rear wheel drive. We stayed near the west entrance of Yosemite. It snowed about 18 inches of snow the day we arrived and the cables did amazing on highway 41 and throughout Yosemite Valley. Road conditions were pretty bad but I felt really safe driving with these cables. Really good quality chains! Shipping was delayed a day but I ordered them only 7 days before Christmas.
by:
Never had to use it. Bought this because it was long term predicted to snow during the time frame of a 2019 winter trip to Las Vegas. However the worst we encountered was a very light dusting with nothing accumulating on the highway. The product is stored in my Suburban, next to the jack, just in case.

Ford F-150
My less then stellar rating is based more on my experience in ordering then with the chains themselves. I've had great interaction in the past with etrailer but this time, not so much. Called in an order for chains for my F150. The tech helped me pick out a pair based on my specific truck specs and tire size. After receiving, found that ford specifies S style traction device so excludes chains and meant re-ordering this cables. Called etrailer and new tech saw that was the case immediately. I had to purchase a new set of chains laying out more $. They did cover my return shipping and will reimburse my original $ but, because of lost time and schedule, I needed expedited shipping which they also charged me for. I feel it would have been more appropriate for them to pay the upgraded shipping and to offer an exchange credit on chains for cables once they verified I had shipped especially as how I've been an active customer for years. This purchase aside, my history with them has been fantastic.
by:
Product arrived right on time and in perfect condition. The cables are easy to install if you've used cables or chains before, but I hope you don't have to rely on the pictures in the installations instructions because they are just blurry enough to be of no help at all. The cables fit my 275/65/R18 Michelin LTX A/T2 tires pretty well, but if you have tires any bigger than that you will need to purchase a larger size snow cable or chain. A handy cloth carrying case is included, but it's a little tough getting the cables back inside when you're finished using them, so be sure to keep the twist ties that come with the cables to make storage a little bit easier.

2003 GMC Yukon
I used these last year on my Yukon. We went out into the Ochoco Mountains to cut a Christmas tree. We got into ice on 6" of snow. Pulled these chains out and 20min later we were heading our way home. Don't leave home without them. My only complaint is that the instructions need to be laminated or on waterproof paper. The instructions just desentagrated when it got wet.
by:
2008 Ford Expedition
These chains are terrible. Both snapped in less than 20 miles of driving I n roads covered in 6"+ of unplowed fresh snow. What a joke. My father owned one set of tire chains his ENTIRE LIFE!
by:
2012 Toyota Tacoma
Glacier chains for my 2012 Tacoma went on easy. I haven't had the chance to actually use them in the snow yet, so I can't comment on their effectiveness or durability. My only complaint concerns the bag used to store them. It's way too small. I struggled to get them out of the bag the first time. It was almost as if the bag was constructed around the chains. Needless to say there was no way I was going to get them back in the bag. I store them in an old gym bag. As far as etrailer.com goes, 5 stars all the way. They want to make sure you are properly serviced.
by:
2013 Ford F-150
I haven't used my chains in snow yet, but I installed them on the tires of my F-150 and they fit perfectly. I also found them to be very easy to install. When I go for a ski trip this winter, it will be great to know that I don't have to be overly worried about the weather. I'll also comment that the chains came in a handy carrying case that will easily fit under the seat. Exactly what I was needing.
by:
I like that these tire cables/chains are DOT approved USA wide. Easy to install. I just dry fit them to get a feel of installation process. Haven’t had any weather events that needed the use of them yet.
by:
Quality made product right out of the package. I haven't had a chance to use them but being a welder/fabricator I can see the quality in the work done on these. Looking forward to slapping these bad boys on and tearing up the snow and ice!
by:
2016 GMC Sierra
although I have not used these chains, I did put them on to determine correct fit. I was both please with fit and ease of installation. They were bought for my 2016 GMC Sierra in four wheel drive and I purchased two sets for front and back. Vey Pleased with the product.

2018 GMC Yukon
Used these for our 2015 Yukon with 20 in wheels on a 2018 ski trip.

Were great in the snow. Easy to put on, although it took a few times to get good at it.

Unfortunately I used them on our way down and then drove 7 hours home and left in the garbage bag overnight. After pulling them out, they had completely rusted because of the humidity (ocean air). So I get to buy another set.

Response time with my order through etrailer was excellent. I would give an overall "Excellent" but I have not tried the product yet. I think my standard delivery was in about 3 days. As previously said, I have not installed my snow cables on my truck, but I will say visually they appear to be of good quality. The instructions are basic and they look like they are adaquate to help me install the cables for the first time. I am happy thus far with etrailer and plan to make additional purchases thru them in the future.

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 2012 Ford F-350 with Tire Size 275/70R18
For as heavy of a truck as your 2012 Ford F-350 is I would not recommend the use of cable type chains since they wouldn't last very long. I'd rather see you go with the part # TC2533 is a diamond pattern chain that is also pretty easy to install. Diamond patterns provide a smoother ride quality and provide better traction around corners. The ladder style are better for very deep snow.

  • Are The Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains # PW2028C Low-Profile
Yes, the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains - 1 Pair # PW2028C are "low-profile" (Class S) chains. The manual states that "If the vehicle has LT265/70R17, LT275/65R18, 275/60R20, or 275/50R22 size tires, do not use tire chains. They can damage the vehicle because there is not enough clearance. Tire chains used on a vehicle without the proper amount of clearance can cause damage to the brakes, suspension, or other vehicle parts. The area damaged by the tire chains could cause you to lose control...

There are numerous options for tire chains for the 2014 Buick Enclave with 255/60-19 tires. I have included a link to the right with all the options for you. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual first for any specific requirements or recommendations on the use of chains on your vehicle. Out of the options, if you will not be using chains very often I recommend cables # PW2028C that you referenced. Cables are great for infrequent use. You will also want some rubber adjusters # PW99...

  • Availability Of Class S Compatible Tire Chains For 2016 Ford Expedition With 275/65 R18 Tires
Hello Andrew, thanks for reaching out. We do offer chains that will fit the 275/65 R18 tires, but sadly we do not offer anything class S compatible. Our most low-profile chain for these tires are the Konig Tire Chains # KON94FR which require at least 5/8" of internal clearance. Even these are not considered class S compatible. We just don't have anything for that tire size I'm afraid.

According to your owner's manual, there aren't any major restrictions to using chains on the DRW of your 2021 Ram 3500. We have a couple options available that would be compatible with your 235/80-17 tire size. For great performance on ice and in deep snow on or off-road, I'd recommend the Titan Chain # TC4821 V-bar chain set. The V-bar links would provide exceptional traction in icy conditions or in deep snow, but would have a very rough ride on pavement that's been lightly covered...

Hi there Brian; we have both snow tire chains and cables that fit 275-65/18 tires, though you definitely want to check your owner's manual to see if they are okay to use on your truck. I'm not sure why the dealer would say cables instead of chains (that doesn't make much sense) but just to be thorough I'll go ahead and give you the option for both that fit your tire size. These cables will have the longest warranty(90 days) of any of the cables available for your F-150. The manufacturer recommends using adjusters like the Glacier Rubber Adjusters # PW99. • Why Does Ford Exclude Tire Chains for 275/65-18 Tires on a 2016 Ford F-150
When a vehicle manufacturer states that chains cannot be used it is generally because there is a potential clearance issue between the inner sidewalls and vehicle components. However, in some places chains or cables are required by law. Since a vehicle manufacturer or dealer cannot tell you to break the law you would have to use a traction device of some kind. Cables such as # PW2028C which fit your 275/65-18 tires usually require the least clearance. For them I also recommend using rubber...

Using bungee cords, chain tensioners or rubber adjusters isn't a requirement but certainly recommended. I went out to the warehouse and pulled Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains # PW2028C to figure out the best way to put them back in the bag after use. First, make sure that you lie one chain on top of the other. Then, at the end that has the large cam attachment pieces, fold those in towards the center of the chains. Then start rolling them up. Going slowly will help to maintain a tight roll. Once you have rolled them up you will have some straight pieces at the ends sticking out that you can...

  • What Are The Best Snow Tire Chains For A 275/65/R18 Tire
Before you purchase a set of tire chains, I recommend looking in your owner's manual for compatibility issues. According to Ford, tire chains are not recommended to be used on a 275/65/R18 tire with a 2006 Ford F-150. However, I do understand certain cases in which you absolutely need them. For an economy option, the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains part # PW2028C meet the department of transportation requirements in all states. You may also choose to use the Glacier Multi-Arm Rubber Adjusters...

  • Class S Tire Chain Recommendation for Tire Size 275/65-18
We have three options for Class S tire chains/cables for the size 275/65-18 that you referenced. We have two sets of ladder style cables part numbers # PW2028C and # TC2028 and we also have a set of low profile chains part # TC2327 these will provide the best traction and would be what I would recommend if Ford says Class S chains can be used on your vehicle. These will provide much better traction, will last much longer, and will install pretty easily as well.

  • Tire Chains for Use on 2018 Chevy Tahoe Z71 with Tire Size 265/65-18
When it comes to using tire chains of any type the auto maker gets to have the final word. Some vehicles can use chains only on specific tire sizes or only on one axle or the other. Your 2018 Tahoe can come from the factory with either 18-inch, 20-inch or 22-inch tires, as shown on the linked page for tire chains. I checked the online owner's manual for the 2018 Chevy Tahoe and on pages 356-357 the manual indicates that standard tire chains should NOT be used on tire sizes P265/65R18,...

  • Snow Tire Chain Recommendation for 2018 Chevy Suburban
For your 2018 Chevy Suburban with 265/65R18 tires, both the snow tire chains and snow tire cables will work great in snow conditions. The big difference is the chains will give you better grip in icy conditions because the links will bite into the ice where as the snow cables tend to slide over the ice. I recommend the Konig Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - D Link - XG12 Pro - Size 267 # TH01594267 which have great internal clearance so you won't need to worry about...

  • Can I Use Tire Chains for a 2014 Ford F-150 4X4 With 275/55-20 Size Tires
I also saw in the owner's manual for the 2014 Ford F-150 that Ford does not recommend snow chains, but the manual also suggests that if you use snow chains you will need to only use SAE Class S rated chains. The main issue that consumers are dealing with on the use of tire chains is, as you mentioned, what the manufacturer recommends and what the law demands. The question becomes do you ignore the manufacturer's recommendation and face possibly voiding your warranty or do you adhere to...

  • Recommended Class S Snow Chains for 2016 Chevy Tahoe with 265/65R18 Tires
For your 2016 Chevy Tahoe with 265/65-18 tires I recommend the Konig Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - D Link - XG12 Pro - Size 267 # TH01594267. We have confirmed this fit for your vehicle and I've attached a video of these 12mm internal clearance chains on a 2017 Tahoe to assist. The D shaped links will provide better traction than cable chains. If you have the clearances needed, this is definitely my recommendation over cable style chains. If you want even more...

  • Recommended Tire Chains for 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500
According to the owner's manual of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, you would not be able to use chains on your size tires due to clearance issues, but you would be able to use other traction devices which should be placed on the rear wheels. The owner's manual does not specify whether or not the cable-style device constitute "chains" so I recommend contacting your Chevy dealer to ensure you can use cables on your tires or not. If you can, there are two options available for you, each...
