Over time, any suspension components can fail and need to be replaced. Since you said a shackle broke now would be a good time to inspect all of the suspension components and replace any that show signs of damage or uneven wear. It is always best to replace suspension components on both sides of the trailer to make sure you keep the trailer even and in good working order.
You said the shackles broke on your trailer. If you are talking about the shackle straps, you can measure the straps you have and replace all that need to be replaced. Shackle straps are measured center to center of the holes and the overall length. I have attached a product page for the shackle straps we offer. You can use the filters on the page to find the straps you need to replace.
If you decide you want to replace the leaf springs you will need to know the length from the center of one eye to the center of the other eye. The leaf springs we offer for a 4,000 lb axle like part # e57SR may have fewer leaves than those you have on your trailer. These springs measure 25-1/4 inches eye-center-to-eye-center and have 4 leaves.
If you decide you want to replace the leaf springs you will need to know the length from the center of one eye to the center of the other eye. If the leaf springs have been installed for quite a while, they may stretch or sag so you need to allow for slight variations. I have attached a drawing that shows where you need to measure on the leaf springs when looking for replacements.
I have attached a helpful article that explains trailer suspension and its components you can check out.
