Question:

I have an eleven ft Lance Camper and need an extension that will put the ball out far enough to not cause me any turning issues. I have a Titan Class 5 hitch. What will be the allowable tongue weight with that long of extention. I have a 2001 Chevy P/U 3500 Dually. thanks

It sounds like your Lance camper overhangs the truck bed so you need an extension of some kind. There are a couple of possible solutions. Many extensions will reduce the tongue weight capacity of a trailer hitch by 50 percent. However if you were to use a long ball mount, the capacity is not nearly as affected.

A ball mount like # BM20 measures 13-1/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole. I have linked a video review for you. I have also linked all of the super extra long ball mounts we carry. With these ball mounts you will need the Curt Reducer Sleeve 2-1/2" to 2", part # C45405.

The next option would be to use an extension. This option will reduce the tongue weight capacity by 50 percent. If the reduced tongue weight capacity is still high enough for your trailer's tongue weight then this is a viable option. The longest option we have is 18 inches, like # ST18, and it also has a step.

Finally, you could use Titan 24 to 34 inches long extension # RP45292. With a 2-1//2 inch receiver and one of these extensions, the tongue weight capacity is not reduced because of how robust a 2-1/2 inch hitch is made.
