Question:
I have an 01 GMC Sierra 2500HD short bed. Im looking to put a new receiver in 2 1/2 in size to my truck as the factory one is showing damage. I see that the DT45517 is listed for only fitting both the short bed and long bed. while the DT45519 is listed only for the long bed. My question is What is the difference in mounting dimensions between the DT45517 and DT45519 as Im looking for the higher capacity, and better ground clearance

Hello Bradin,
I was able to get out to the warehouse to get the mounting hole dimensions that you requested, I appreciate the opportunity for a good leg stretch. all of my measurements are from center hole to center hole.
The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # DT45519 which is listed for the 2500 8' bed and 3500 is 39" across closest to the receiver, 38 1/2" across in the back, from the front bracket (near receiver) to the rear bracket closest hole is 12 1/2", then from hole to hole on the back bracket is 2 1/2".
The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT45517 which is the fit for your 2001 GMC Sierra 2500HD with 6 1/2' bed is 39" across closest to the receiver, 38 1/2" across in the back, and then from the front bracket hole to the rear bracket hole is 14 1/2".
The hitches are custom-made to align with the existing holes in your truck’s frame. The higher-rated # DT45519 may be listed for the 8' bed and 3500 models because of its increased towing capacity. However, you should check your owner's manual to confirm the towing capacity GMC specifies for your truck. Based on my research, the 2001 GMC Sierra 2500HD, even with the most powerful engine, should not tow more than 12,000 lbs. It's important to follow your vehicle’s towing limits, just because a hitch is rated for higher capacity doesn’t mean your truck should tow that much weight. Additionally, using the # DT45519 on your truck could void the hitch’s warranty since Draw-Tite does not list your specific model as a fit.
I would recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Custom Fit # C15703, but since clearance is a concern for you, the installed pictures I attached show that the Curt hitch has significantly less clearance than the # DT45519.
What were you looking to tow with your truck?

I appreciate the response, and based on the measurements, both the DT45517 and DT45519 will both bolt on to a 2500hd short bed without modifications, at least on my truck. I'm not looking to exceed the factory tow rating of the truck, however, i do want the higher capacity, specifically tongue weight capacity, since i do tow off road occasionally and a sudden drop momentarily increases downward force from inertia. Warranty isn't really a concern as much for me, as long as the quality of the part is good.
