Hitch Adapter to Raise Cargo Carrier by 3-4 Inches

Published 08/30/2014

Question:

I am looking for a trailer hitch adapter 2inch x 2inch reciever and adapter with a 3-4inch rise, but I need 7inch from pin hole to pin hole for the cargo rack to clear my bumper. I dont need something longer because it makes the cargo rack extend out too far. Do you have a product like this? Any other suggestions?

What you're describing is called a high-low adapter. They work very well keeping the tow bar level when you're flat towing a vehicle, but they can also be used for elevating a hitch mounted accessory.

Another option would be the Roadmaster # RM-077-4 dual hitch receiver offers the rise you're looking for. The pin hole to pin hole dimension is 10-1/4 inches which is slightly longer that you wanted, but it should work just fine for you.

A third alternative, the Curt # D-192 offers a bit more rise but is shorter at 8 inches. Because of the way the # D-192 is designed, using it will lower the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by half. If your tongue weight capacity (check sticker on hitch for capacity information) is 350 lbs, using the D-192 would lower that to 175 lbs. This would mean that the weight of the carrier or the load placed on it couldn't weigh more than have the tongue weight capacity of the hitch.
