Weight Distribution Hitch for Grand Design 161BH Camper Pulld By Stock and Lifted Trucks

Published 11/04/2026

Question:

I have been towing various trailers privately but have used WDH for work on several occasions. I recently bought a camper trailer that has a rated toungue weight of 500lbs, dry weight of 4500lb and max weight of 5500lbs - its a 2026 grand design 161BH - 23 long. Both me and my son will be towing with 1/2 ton pickups. Mines a 2024 Ram 1500 - standard tradesmans truck. My sons is a 1500 chevy with a slight lift / larger tires. We are looking for 1 WDH to work on both. We were looking at the Curt TruTrack 2P part C95MJ but we are worried there is not enough . Any suggestions for a system with more and has ease of adjustment betweem the 2 vehicles? The RAM will be the primary...

Good morning Rob. Congrats on the new 2026 Grand Design 161BH Travel Trailer! That's exciting.

The Curt TruTrack 2P # C95MJ is still a good option for your Grand Design 161BH since its 500-800 lb tongue weight range is a good match for the trailer. The limitation is the included shank, which only provides about 1/2" of drop. With your son's lifted Chevy, you may need to swap to a longer drop shank such as # C17100 if you need more adjustment.

A better overall option for sharing between the two trucks would be the Fastway e2 # FA94-00-0800. It has a 400-800 lb tongue weight range and comes with a shank that provides up to 3-1/2" of drop and 5-3/4" of rise, giving you more adjustment right out of the box.

Performance-wise, both are good 2-point sway control systems. The main reason I prefer the Fastway for your setup is that it gives you more height adjustment between the two trucks without immediately needing a different shank.

You may still need to move the hitch head up or down when switching between the trucks depending on the receiver heights.

Do you have any trips planned yet?

That’s for the info! That may be the better option and the price is still good. Trips - actually I have bunch planned into WV (I live in PA). I teach Wilderness Search and Rescue as well as Wilderness FIrst Aid and will be using the training as a place to bunk during this trips Ans as a Command Post. We are giving it a test try tomorrow night locally but then go into full production come December - or my son may take it out on a hunting trip sooner. Again, thanks for getting back to me. Bob
