Recommended Idler Hub w/a 5 on 4-1/2 Lug Nut Pattern that Fits a 1" Diameter BT8 Straight Spindle

Updated 11/04/2026 | Published 11/03/2026

Question:

I am trying to determine what pre-greased hub assembly would work for my trailer axle. It measures 1.5 inch in diameter. The hubs are 5 by 4 1\2. The bearings are L44643. The spindle is 1inch. The tires are 4.80-8. I am looking at part number AKIHUB-545-2-LF-1K and CE13210. I am not sure if either of these is the correct one. Thanks.

Thanks for all the helpful sizing information Charles. Since you're running 8" wheels on your trailer, you'll need the CE Smith Trailer Hub Assembly item # CE13210. This hub is sold individually and comes with bearings, seal, lug nuts, and a grease cap.

The CE Smith Trailer Hub Assembly item # CE13210 is designed to fit a BT8 spindle and comes with pre-installed and greased item # L44643 bearings. It'll come out of the box ready to go and it'll slide right onto your 1" diameter spindle. This hub has a 5 on 4-1/2 lug nut pattern.

If you have a boat trailer, I recommend using the CE Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly item # CE13215 instead. It's got the same sizing specifications but this hub is galvanized to prevent corrosion.

What kind of trailer do you have and what do you haul with it? Feel free to answer this and throw in any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.

I forgot to mention the trailer is a square tube not round. Do not know if this makes a difference or not.

@CharlesH That will not make a a difference as far as the CE Smith Trailer Hub Assembly item # CE13210 or item # CE13215 fitting.
