Installing a Hitch on a 2027 Kia Telluride Without Trimming the Bumper

Updated 10/20/2026 | Published 10/17/2026

Question:

I'm looking at the Curt hitch for my 2027 Kia Telluride. Some of the installation information for older Tellurides mentions cutting the bumper and removing the spare tire. Will I have to do either of those with this hitch? I'd like to keep the bumper intact and the spare underneath.

Hey Mike! The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C948RD installs on your 2027 Kia Telluride without trimming the bumper, and your factory spare tire stays underneath the vehicle. You'll temporarily lower the spare tire and exhaust for installation, then reinstall both once the hitch is secured.

You will need to enlarge an existing access hole in each frame rail so the mounting hardware can pass through. That work is underneath the vehicle, not on the bumper, and you won't need to drill new mounting holes. The installation hardware and fishwires are included.

Are you planning to install it yourself?

Yes, I'm planning to install it myself. I've installed hitches before, but this will be my first time using fishwires. Glad I won't have to cut the bumper or relocate the spare tire.

@Mike the fishwires make it a lot easier to get the hardware into the frame. Just take your time enlarging the access holes and you shouldn't have any trouble. Enjoy the new Telluride!
