Ball Mount Recommendation for 2019 Toyota 4Runner TRD Towing Trailer

Published 10/13/2026

Question:

This was very helpful, but I'm still not certain which hitch to get. Also, this brings up more questions. I'm a total newbie; I just bought a 2021 Airstream Basecamp 16X. It's coupler height is 21". My tow vehicle hitch height is 19" on the 2019 5th gen stock Toyota 4Runner, TRD Off Road model. Trailer has a GVWR of 3500 lbs.; Hitch weight 410 lbs. Trailer ball is 2 5/16. How do I compensate for any vehicle sag? I'm hoping to avoid buying multiple hitches to find the correct height. Is a weight distribution system recommended? Leaf springs for this little SUV? If I install leaf springs will that significantly raise the hitch height. Thanks much!

That's a really good question but in order to compensate for suspension sag it's best to go with a ball mount that still calculates as level and just let their be a small amount of sag. So for that the Curt ball mount # C93KR is a great option for a fixed ball mount as it has a 2 inch rise just like you need. Then for a hitch ball the correct ball would be # C40007.

I don't think you'll need a weight distribution system at that tongue weight. I would try towing with it with the ball mount I mentioned and then if you need more support for the suspension let me know.
