Question:

I have a small dinghy trailer 2008 ez load trailer model EZB 12-14- 700. The plastic oil cover broke, and is corroded inside. I need new hub assembly ideally prepackaged with grease. I only use is 2x a year beg / end of boating season and only drive it 2-3 miles. Which would be the best / easiest to swap out? I’ll probably swap out both of them . Can you let me know? Thx -Rich

Hey Richard, thanks for reaching out. With how little you use that trailer, I like the idea of converting both hubs from oil bath to standard grease hubs. Your EZB 12-14-700 is a torsion-axle trailer, but I do not want to pick a hub from the trailer model alone. EZ Loader used different hub/spindle combinations, and the bearing sizes need to match the spindle exactly. So, we'll need to verify exactly which spindle you have now.

The best way to verify this is with the casting number on your hub. Ilder hubs should have a number stamped on the back, and in most cases, we can use this to pull up your bearing/hub info. If that fails, you can pull a hub and remove the bearings. Each bearing should have a number stamped on the edge, or you can measure the ID of each bearing with a caliper.

For example, the CE Smith # CE13311 hub you were looking at uses # L44649 (1.063" inner diameter) inner and outer bearings.

Get me that casting number and/or your bearing sizes and I'm happy to look into it and make sure you get the right hub.

What boat do you launch, and is it mostly fresh or salt water?

Hi Jesse- the hub is stamped with BT150A. I pulled the old hub off and measured the diameter of the axel. The inside is 1.25” and the other section is 1 and 1/16” (1.0625). It is a 5 bolt pattern x 4.5 inches. The trailer goes in salt water 2 times a year. I need a kit that includes the washer, pin, crown bolt, etc. the old ones were pretty rusty. Jessie- One additional note. The hub appears to be 3 1/2 inches wide vs. the standard 4+ inches.

@RichardM Gotcha glad you mentioned that. We do have those bearings, but I'm sorry to say we don't offer an idler hub that uses that bearing combination. It is pretty uncommon these days. Also, the 3-1/2" wide hubs will be a problem here too. Modern hubs are closer to 4-1/4" wide, and those shorter 3-1/2" hubs are basically obsolete and are no longer made. I know this isn't what you were hoping to hear but at this point if you need to replace the hubs you would be looking at a whole new axle that uses a more modern/standard spindle size.

Thanks Jesse- Do you sell the axels with the hubs attached (for 8 inch wheels)? Trying to see how I can make this work vs. buying a new trailer that I only use 2X a year. The current one is roughly 47" long and 1.5 inches wide. Let me know.
