Question:

Hi. I am thinking about buying a 2026 Volvo XC90 B6 not the hybrid T8. I have a Thule Velocompact 927 bike rack that I bought overseas that has 7 round pins that mounts on a 50mm ball. I have the extender and the ball. Can you please recommend the best towbar for this car. I am concerned about it being able to carry 3 mountain bikes and also how much it would lower the ground clearance. I understand Id need to also get an adapter to convert the US 7way blade to 7 pin. Thanks

Hey Hyland.

It very much sounds like you need a trailer hitch for the Volvo. The best hitch for this vehicle and your use case is the Curt Trailer 2" Hitch Receiver # C13233 which gives you roughly a 12-1/2" clearance on the 26' model without anything attached. Just a heads up, this hitch requires you to drill into the frame for installation, you may also have to trim the facia and lower the exhaust temporarily. I recommend looking into a professional install. I also recommend a stabilizing strap for this hitch # 18050 as this will assist with ground clearance and support with a bike rack attached. This hitch provides more than enough capacity for your Thule rack and bikes.
