How Can I Attach C42CR Directly to Hitch?
Updated 09/14/2026 | Published 09/06/2026 >
Question:
If I want to screw this directly into the hitch receiver instead of using the brackets what type of screws should I use and what size holes should I drill?

Hey Mike!
To screw the Curt Mounting Bracket for 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C42CR directly into your vehicle's hitch, I recommend using zinc-plated or stainless steel self-tapping screws to ensure they're corrosion resistant.
There's no specific self-tapping screw size required for this bracket, but I'd say you need around 3/4" of length to secure it into the hitch tube. I'd avoid anything excessively long since you only need enough engagement to secure the think mounting bracket to the hitch tube.
What kind of vehicle do you have? Are you drilling into a factory hitch or an aftermarket hitch?

I mounted mine right next to hitch on plastic bumper cover. I used 1/4 stainless bolts and locknuts. I had to bend up a little but am happy with results

Thanks Jerry, I have a Hyundai Santa Cruz and I'll be drilling into an aftermarket hitch.
