Can Thule Epos Bike Rack Use Hitch Extender in Motorhome Hitch

I need to extend our bike career so that the bikes dont hit the back of our motor home. Is this the best solution? I have the Thule Epos two bike carrier and the bikes weigh apron 100 together. I tried a 7inch extender but it didnt give the clearance needed.

Hey Keith, Thule doesn't exactly love the idea of using their Epos bike rack like # TH49XE with a hitch extender like the Blue Ox part # BX88264 because it adds quite a bit of leverage and movement to the hitch setup. The Blue Ox part # BX88264 that you referenced is 12 inches long so it would be longer than what you tried already and probably would give you the added clearance you are looking for but I can't recommend this as your most ideal solution.

I agree with the expert the longer hitch extension does apply a lot more leverage to your hitch mounting point. I have a heavy duty one up bike rack, two electric bikes, without batteries I’m still 130 or 140 pounds. I have an off-road camper truck. It does put a lot of stress on everything. I have bent the 2x6x1/4” steel frame that is the mounting point. It’s not much 3/8” or less. But then again I have hundreds of miles of rough roads with Bikes on the back. Smoother roads and lighter Bikes should not be a problem. It just depends on how strong your hitch point is and what it’s load rating is also.

It fit perfectly, we have a 4 door ‘24 bronco and the big 35”spare on tailgate was getting in the way . Not anymore worked perfectly and fits tight so no rattling.
