Question:

My trailer was matched to a Blue Ox 2 inch shank and bars are four dot. Bought an inexpensive tongue scale and TW is 1600 pounds. Sounds like I can buy just 5 dots bars from you and put those on. But weight, tow vehicle has changed to 2026 F350 with 2 1/2 receiver. Do I need to buy a whole new Blue OX hitch with 2 1/2 shank, or stay with 2 inch shank and just buy five dot bars? Thanks, Greg Last, should be easy to to 1500 TW because holding tanks 3 x40 gal are 3/4 full and about 30 gallons of fresh water remain. All will be dumped before towing.

Hello Greg.

Firstly, congrats on the new truck, super cool. However, I recommend that you upgrade your shank to the 2-1/2" size for the new truck as there is really no way around that. The Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution Shank # BXW4028 will work great for this as you just replace the old shank with the new one, easy enough. Now, when it comes to the spring bars, Blue Ox specifically recommends measuring the tongue weight with the trailer loaded exactly as it would be when being towed. So, if you aren't positive about that number, verify that before investing in the 5-dot spring bars. If the tongue weight falls above the 1,500lb rating of the 4-dot when ready to tow, I recommend the 5-dot Replacement Spring Bars # BXW4014.

Was the F-350 upgrade mainly for this trailer, or did you just decide it was time for a new tow vehicle?
