How Do The Custer LED Side Marker or Clearance Trailer Lights Install?
Updated 08/28/2026 | Published 08/22/2026 >
Question:
I purchased clearance lights CPL120A. The question I have is are they mounted from the rear or is the outer front lens removeable allowing screws to be installed from the front. I tried to remove the front lens cover but I dont want to damage the light!

Hey Gordon, thanks for reaching out. Yes, the amber lens on the Custer LED Side Marker/Clearance Light # CPL120A pops off to access the mounting holes. The lens is a snap-in design, so there are no screws holding the lens itself in place.
To remove it, I recommend using a small flat-blade screwdriver or plastic trim tool at the seam between the amber lens and the black housing. Gently work along the edge and pry outward until the retaining tabs release. I would work around the perimeter rather than putting a lot of pressure in one spot, especially if the light is cold, since the polycarbonate gets less flexible.
Once the lens pops off, you will have access to the two mounting holes spaced 3" on center. After installing the screws, line the lens back up with the housing and press around the edges until the tabs snap back into place.
What kind of trailer are you mounting them on?

Thank you for replying to my question Jessie. I did finally get the outer cover off but it fits extremely tight ( which is good ) but I was afraid of breaking the lens. All Is Good Thanks Again!!!!
