Where to Install the Curt Gooseneck Flat Plate C65500 on a Tractor

My tractor has a working fifth wheel, and I need to install the gooseneck trailer plate onto the frame of the tractor but I don’t know if I should mount it in front or behind the fifth wheel.

Hey James. You're most likely going to need to place the Curt Gooseneck Flat Plate item # C65500 behind your 5th wheel hitch closest to the rear of your tractor. You're going to want to install it as close to the center of your axle/s as possible on your semi's frame. I don't know where in relation to your axle/s your 5th wheel hitch is mounted but you'll want to consider turning clearance as well if you decide to go between it and the cab.
If your semi has 5th wheel rails installed, you can also use the Curt Spyder Gooseneck Trailer Hitch item # C35HR. This has a 30,000 lbs capacity and attaches to industry standard 5th wheel rails like you see in the beds of trucks.

I put one on my GMC C 5500 and I’m out of mine right behind the fifth wheel and have no problems out of it

In my experience I would recommend behind the 5th wheel / my simple reasoning is that over the years I have had several goosenecks that the tongue dip not reach as far as others or as far as moat 5th wheels .. hope this helps Justin P
