Does this affect the ride of my truck when the truck isnt loaded? If so, would you recommend removing them when not hauling?

Hi Tharen!

With the TorkLift StableLoad Suspension Upgrade for Upper Overload Springs # TLA7200 installed on your unloaded 2026 Chevy Silverado 3500 (congrats on the new truck!!!), it will make the ride harsher, unfortunately. Upper overload springs have a much higher spring rate, and with them constantly engaged, you will notice it.

Though I do recommend trying them out unloaded to see if it's bearable, they can absolutely be removed when they aren't needed. Each one is held on with just one bolt, so the process is pretty quick and easy.

What are you going to be hauling and how often?

I installed them on my 2024 F250 Super Duty and I don’t notice it riding much rougher when not loaded, because they only touch the overload springs when I have my work trailer attached.

My 2024 Ram 3500 dually rides just the same as stock when unloaded. The bumpers dont even touchuntil about 1200lbs is loaded into the truck. I did do some trimming on the rear 2 bumpers to keep them off the overload springs when unloaded as the instructions indicated you could do. Fit good on my Ram.

I have been riding around with them on my F350 for over a year and only noticed that they are there when I hit a good sized bump when my truck is unloaded. Otherwise they don’t even engage unless my truck bed it full.

Hello, we have a 2025 GMC DRW long bed. Our ride is more harsh with the upper loads installed without our truck camper in the bed. We trimmed as much as was allowed but on the GM trucks there is not as much clearance before touching the overloads and so they touch somewhat when the bed unloaded. I’m sure this is the reason why it is so harsh and is also the reason why we are considering removing them and perhaps going with the lower stable loads that could be detached when you do not need them.

@Lisa It really does seem to be kind of hit or miss with these in regards to causing a harsher unloaded ride. It would have been nice if TorkLift figured out a way for these to be "quick release" when you didn't need them, but if wishes were horses... I do have a wuestion though, the TorkLift StableLoad # TL77QV is designed for the lower overload springs. Does your truck have both upper and lower overload springs? I know a lot of the heavy duty trucks do, but not all of them.

@LazerS Hello, I’d be happy to share a picture with you. I’m not sure how to attach it in this format. It looks like I have a lower overload spring although there is not as much clearance as I’d like. I am considering removing my upper loads because as I said, it’s a harsh ride and also on low speed bumpy roads there’s a lot of side to side wobble. The vehicle is good on GVWR. I was thinking that I should’ve probably started with the lowers and supported the lower spring set. The uppers seem to me like more of a secondary option not a primary option.

So i bought a set for my 23 1ton silverado they were a pain to put in cause of the wheel well mouldings and the factory rubber frame contacts that have to be removed so unloaded the clearance on the front ones was tight i had to cut some of the rubber to make about a 1/2 in gap it does make for a stiffer ride but when i hook up my 5th wheel the truck doesnt squat that much which is better for towing

I ended up taking them off because of the ride empty. F350 LONG BED. Wish I still had em. Not sure what I did with them. I have air bags now. Do I like em. Eh.

@Dennis I bet they will be in the last place you look! (sorry, I couldn't help it) Surprised to hear you aren't happy with the air bags though. Do you know which brand you installed? And what PSI are you running unloaded?

@LazerS I run 5 psi unloaded and 30 with my 5th wheel. I'm sure it's just me. But you buy a one ton truck and it needs help to stay level.

@Dennis Well dang. I was hoping you were going to say you were running it at a higher psi and then I could tell you to let some air out, but oh well. This may be a silly suggestion, but you might try adding some weight to the bed when you aren't towing your 5th wheel. Heavy duty trucks are pretty notorious for having a rough ride even without supplementing the suspension, so having something back there may help a bit.
