Question:
I'm getting my new 2027 GMC Canyon set up to flat tow behind our motorhome and would like to use Blue Ox for the setup if possible. I also prefer a portable braking system that I can remove when we're not towing. Can you recommend everything I'll need for a complete setup?

Hey Ryan! Absolutely, Blue Ox is a great way to set up your new Canyon, and we can keep most of the major components within the Blue Ox lineup. Here is everything I recommend for a complete flat tow setup:
-Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BLU85CR
-Blue Ox Avail Non-Binding Tow Bar # BLU28QV (includes safety cables)
-Blue Ox Universal Tow Bar Cover # BLU53QV (optional)
-Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-15267
-Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25
-Blue Ox Patriot Portable Flat Tow Brake System # BLU37TR
-Blue Ox 12 Volt Power Outlet Kit # BLU33QV
The Blue Ox Avail is a great match for the Blue Ox base plate and gives you a non-binding tow bar that's easy to disconnect when you get to the campsite. The Patriot is also one of my favorite choices for a portable braking system since you can pull it out of the Canyon when you aren't towing.
More than likely you will also need a high-low adapter like the etrailer # e52ZV to keep your setup level. The bracket height on the Blue Ox base plate is 15". Measure to the center of your motorhome hitch and subtract the bracket height, the difference will be the rise/drop you need.
Where are you planning to take the Canyon on your first trip?

Hey Ryan it’s a great system but I don’t use a braking system because I Have a super C and the Canyon it’s just over 5k. Seeping on the model??

Blue ox setup worked great on my 2024 canyon, I used the Roadmaster led light strip for lights, Easy to install and don’t have to tie into vehicle wiring. I’m using the Air Force one braking system, just be careful if you have a diesel, some brake systems work off of the brake lights causing your toad brakes to come on when using engine brake. I would check state laws about brake requirements before I towed without one .

The Blue Ox product has worked great for me.. I have a attachment package on my 2023 Jeep Rubicon and also a package on my 2025 Chevrolet Colorado.. Both packages and tow bar have been flawless and easy to mount.. I would give Blue Ox a A+ rating..

We have had the blue ox and patriot 3 set-up for our 2023 Canyon for 3 years, and it all seems to work well. We power the patriot 3 from the 7-pin connected to the coach, as our Canyon requires us to disconnect/shut-off the Canyon battery for dinghy towing (we added a manual battery cut-off under the hood like the battery cut-offs in the coach). You also might need to re-set the power-up sequence on the patriot 3 after turning off the coach for more than a minute (or remember to leave the coach in the “accessory” position on the ignition). If you stay hooked up overnight with the coach ignition off, you might need to remove the patriot 3 and pump the Canyon brakes a few times before the patriot 3 will give you a green light. We also had to add bulbs to the Canyon tail lights for turn signals and brake lights powered from the 7-pin. There might be a diode set-up that works for the OEM tail lights, but our installers were not comfortable doing that. Happy trails.
