Installation Questions for the Curt Hitch on a Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid

In the video and instructions there is a grommet that’s to be removed. What is the reason for this? Nothing went in that space and I was curious more than anything. This was on a 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid.

That's a great question Tyler!
The rubber grommet for # C37RV is removed to provide an access point for the hitch installation. On some Santa Fe models, it's used to route the carriage bolts and spacer blocks into the frame rail using the included fish wire.
Depending on the configuration of your 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid, you may find that you don't actually need to use that opening because there is another access hole that works just as well. The instructions cover multiple vehicle configurations, so not every step applies to every installation.

I have a 2025 Sante Fe! Bought the Curt hitch for my car and followed the instructions. 30 minutes and it was on! Took longer to drop and replace spare tire than installing hitch! Holes were already there….no drilling or grinding access hole to assist in getting nuts and blocks in place! Perfect fit! Had a hoist making it very easy!

Similar to what others have mentioned, you would only need to remover the rubber grommet IF the installed mount mounting "holes" in the hitch line up perfectly with the "holes" pre-drilled in the vehicle frame. Initially, I would suggest you attempt to hold up the purchased hitch to see IF the predrilled holes in the vehicle frame "lineup" with the predrilled vehicle hitch mounting holes. If they do, remove the grommet and press-on the with mounting. IF not, no need to take the grommets out. It just may be the wrong aftermarket hitch for your vehicle. The mounting holes in the hitch I purchased lined up perfectly...so I pressed on with the mount. I would suggest when you remove the grommets, use an air compressor to "blow out" possible "road/dirt" debris, use a wire brush (that fits the inside the holes diameter) to clean out potential rust, blow out the hole a second time, then spray a little WD-40 inside to hole. Good DIY luck !
